It's HBO and Pizzolato's fault season 2 wasn't up to snuff. HBO made him write it in a year while he spent years on TD season 1. Pizzolato for some reason hated Cary Fukunaga who is a fantastic director and was a huge part of why season 1 was so amazing. They should've made season 2 only have Colin Farrell's character and Rachel McAdams as the leads just like the first season focused on McConaughey and Woody. Too many random shytty side characters in season 2. Colin Farrell was fan-fukking-tastic though, in my opinion.

Man I get so tired of people saying S2 sucked. It's not true. The bar was just set ridiculously high with season 1.

S2 of true detective is better than most shows. Fact.

My guess is Milch will write and Showrunn with Pizzolatto. Or Milch will write with Pizzolatto, and Pizzolatto will be showrunner by himself.

MIlch needs to give us a ending for John from Cincinatti.
That said, can't see how this could go wrong, assuming Pizzolatto isn't involved.

This sounds like the right direction to go in Pizzaman with another talented writer sounds like it can fix the problems of season 2. Hopefully we get a single director for every episode having Fukanaga as the sole director for Season 1 made a big difference.

The problem with season 2 was time.


It needed about 2 more rewrites.


It had the core of a great show,and it had many great moments it just needed more Time in the oven to clean it up.

I'm happy they've realized this mistake and are letting season 3 take as long as it needs.

Season 2 had too many ideas that could have been broken up into two different seasons. Think I talked about that in the season 2 thread.
