This idea is ludicrous. The writer/Nic has said these two guys are heroes. So that goes against your theory. No way Marty helps take Rust down.

The only thing that drew me off them still being cool was that Marty was genuinely surprised Rust was drinking
But theres too much evidence that suggest they are working together to bring down the big bad.

And why wouldn't he think he's a hero if he seriously believes Rust is the killer?

If people are expecting some kind of happy ending where the "good guys" triumph, they need to toss that shyt out the window. The creator the show has referenced Lovecraft in every other interview he does. Things tend not to end too well in those kinds of stories.

They will work together, that was a given.

And you don't know they are, so what does that picture reveal? That they're working together again in 2012? People were saying that 20+ pages ago. It was assumed they'd team up again despite their differences.

And like I said, if they're both playing the detectives as part of some scheme, Marty has no reason to reveal that to them, like he just did. He just told them "Rust was getting a read on you". shyt makes no sense in the context of them mutually trying to deceive the detectives.
