I'm definitely going to watch this show 3-4 more times all the way through.

So many things to catch, so much to :blessed:

The plot isnt. Its quite straightforward.

Just hate all the different names being thrown out. Hard to remember mofos from past episodes.

And Rust lost me with all the 4th dimension garbage talk. But I you nerds were really into that :laff:

I loved the bait & switch they pulled with the 'epic woods shootout' they kept talking about. They kept talking about that like it was the craziest thing ever, only to reveal that it boiled down to an execution they had to cover up.

There's also a certain irony in the detectives trying to pin the murders on Rust by saying he led Marty along the entire time because the one time that Marty led Rust on the case it was kept out of the official story (the biker gang connection).

Anyway, I see people talk about Marty shooting Ledoux but it's tied to his inability to protect his own daughter(s) from the bad shyt in this world (drawing sex pictures in her notebook, reenacting gang rapes with dolls, being a teenage slore), so he's overly protective of young girls and upset by their suffering (think about he clumsily tried to 'save' the underage hooker at the prostitute camp). Marty killing Ledoux is him protecting his daughter in a different way because he can't protect her as a father.
Wise post.

I've never felt as stimulated watching any episode of breaking bad as i felt watching nearly every episode of this iteration of true detective...

and to be real in the grand scheme of great television.. game of thrones isnt even in the discussion... i cant speak for the levels of enjoyment the average person gets from each show but if thats how were breaking down are listings than walking dead would be number one and that shyt is hot garbage.

I like got for what it is... but it doesnt really hold up to deconstruction... and with the exception of the tyrion/tywin scenes its not like the acting is great... its a fun show to watch... 'to see whats going to happen next'

be real with yourself could you ever see yourself rewatching an ep of got just to break it down... i can guarantee alot of tv heads myself including will be doing that with true detective tomorrow.

Whether or not you can "break down" an episode of a TV show has nothing to do with anything. Millions of people were breaking down "Lost", how did that turn out for everyone?

And, no offense, but people like you end up hurting a new show in the long run. If it's all-time after 5 eps what can it do besides fall off? The shyt ain't even got 1 season under it's belt and it's all-time? It trivializes the shows that actually ran for multiple seasons and didn't fall off. Hell, it trivializes this show because if this does end up running 4-5 seasons, and they're all classic, that's as impressive as dropping 5 eps. That's basically what you're saying.

He's very nihilistic and depressing, the kind of personality you'd expect from a hard drug abuser

This iteration of true detective is only running one season for 8 episodes... so we've seen the majority of it already.

All you can do is compare it with the same sample size which is approximately one season... to me it puts GoT to shame... but i really do think that people put that show in a lower tier as opposed to breaking bad/mad men... and deservedly so.

I mean I can turn around now and start coppin pleas but theres no 5 episode run of breaking bad that stacks up against the first 5 eps of true detective... its simple as that.

Yeah but with everything that was going on in Marty's personal life, I think that was enough to make him snap. He instantly realizes the error of his ways, and they have to cover it up.

All of that to say that I don't think Marty is a shytty character or detective.

Regardless of all that deep introspective "but he's a father" shyt, Marty is nothing but a paper pusher. Y'all just have sympathy for him - and me personally, I'm on Rust side with this - I'm starting to get fed the fukk up with his incompetence. Y'all keep saying this is about him "saving his daughters." fukk that lol..
- was he trying to save his daughters when he ran up in his jumpoffs crib?
- was he trying to save his daughters when he ran up in his wives job?
- was he trying to save his daughters when he tried to fight Rust in the locker room?

At this point in life, Marty is more unstable than a coked out Rust. Y'all wouldn't want Marty patrolling your streets. Whenever he gets mad, the first thing he does is assault someone and hide behind the power of his badge. Oh, let me add, that during his stake out mission, he threatened the bar tender with physical violence as well!

Let me also add, that in the preview for next week, I'm almost 100% positive the boy in the cell, is one of the kids that fukked his daughter. But oh no, according to y'all Marty is Father of the Year

(all jokes folks, don't take this shyt to heart)

Wasn't it presented that Marty Mar is a good cop? It sucks how Marty is left to be the emotional mess in lieu of Rusty styling on everything in his sight. I still contend that the Madea looking guy from episode 1 or 2 is deep in this. Wasn't he part of the push to hand off the case?

I noticed something interesting last episode. When Marty and Rust walk into the office and are congratulated by everyone, the first person to congratulate them is their chief. He shakes Marty's hand, turns to Rust and says," *smile* and Rust…glad you managed to not get shot." And the camera just freezes for a split second too long.

Wherever whores go.....
From Charlie Lang
"He said that there's this place down south where all these rich men go to, uh, devil worship. He said that, uh, they—they sacrifice kids and whatnot. Women and children all got—all got murdered there and, um, something about someplace called Carcosa and the Yellow King. He said there's all these, like, old stones out in the woods, people go to, like, worship. He said there's just so much good killin' down there. Reggie's got this brand on his back, like a spiral. He says that's their sign."

Great info if it wasnt posted already

Anyone familiar with Lovecraft's "cosmic horrors" should see the thematic similarity. For his unfortunate protagonists, the ultimate truths of the universe are too much for their overloaded minds to handle. It should not be surprising that Lovecraft incorporated Chambers's The King in Yellow into his overarching Cthulhu mythos, embellishing the elements of the story and adding the fictitious play to his growing bookshelf of equally fictional mythos tomes.

Yo, I caught that as well. Another thing is that Marty said he pushed for Rust to get the Commendation Medal as well. They know of Rust's skills and probably have been keeping tabs on him for the longest.

This show is gripping brehs

Its dumb to compare it to anything off 5 episodes, but ill be damned if I was more hooked and engaged in a setting and characters this quickly like Ive been for this in a long time.

Some of these theories you guys grabbed are crazy impressive. The Cthulu angle is :ohhh:
