yea, he fukked that up...all he had to do was play it cool when she was with the other dude, and he'd still be getting in that ass no matter if she had a man or not...but that's shot to hell now lol...

Rust was just using it to emphasize his point about everybody thinking they're "somebody."
But for the viewers and 2012 detectives, I think it's another red herring meant to make us think Rust is the killer - it underscores the fact that Rust is artistic (so is the killer...they both draw, too) and that he keeps a knife (the victims were stabbed). Add that to his ranting about religion (the killings were meant to represent some sort of religious message) and how he could tell victims were grateful in their last moments of life (as well as him talking about his hallucinations and drug addiction the last episode), and you can see why the 2012 detectives think he's the killer.
I still don't think he is, thoughbut it IS fascinating how much he has in common with him
Yeah I don't see Rust as the killer or even the copycat killer doing the murders now. I still think this shyt is connected to the governors brother who was pushing for a christian task force (in order to complicate the investigation). The masked dude came by way to early in the series to be the mastermind of everything, and we know a coverup happens at some point.
I took that scene as him getting off the phone as quickly as he could due to the fact his partner got all hot about him being at the spot. Now the wife on the other hand....she is tryna to serve him her box on a silver platter...

on another note: is that the girl at the double date the one rust talked about almost marrying?...if so, wonder what changes to make him interested in her to get to the point he almost marries her
that conversation about religion during the church ceremony was just
rusty ethered religion in those 3 - 5 minutes.
the whole back and forth between rust/marty the majority of the episode was great...when marty asked rust 'you know the difference between you and me?', and he hit him with 'denial'...that's just beautiful writing...
yup..the writing in this show is some of the best ive ever heard. if this thing doesnt win awards i will be shocked.
