I chose to interpret the issues with Marty's daughter and her strange behavior as a child to be part of the "spell" or "hex" that was cast on that county. Something wasnt right, and the "flowers" that Errol and the Tuttles had planted were like a poisonous plague on that place. She was raised in that world, of course it was going to shape her.
All of the shots at the end of the countryside and landscape and how peaceful it looked showed me that Rust and Marty were successful in bringing back some of the natural beauty to that place. The show had conditioned us to fear the woods, and the swamps and plains because they were hiding something. But at the end, we were able to appreciate the land for what it was. The bit about light and darkness and "light" starting to win reinforced that notion for me. Everyone was affected by what was going on there, but no one could really put a finger on it.
Someone even mentioned in here how Carcosa, as fukked up as it was, was still kind of beautiful in a twisted way. I believe that Marty, more so than Rust, was impacted by that curse because he already had sexual compulsions and the women in his life were all very tormented by it. The psycho girl with the great breastmeats, the PAWG, his wife and what she resorted to. Rust seemed to be in touch with it, and even mentions early in the season how it felt like a picture of place that had died a long time ago. He was disgusted with everyone and everything, especially himself, because Maggie proved that he was no better than Marty when it came down to it.
This season was beautiful brehs. Theres a lot of symbolism and themes I feel that can be explored if you wanna go there, and if not, its still a damn solid murder mystery.
