The major plot hole in last night's episode was Rust visiting the girl in the mental health center. He decides to finally ask her if anyone else is involved in the kidnapping ring and she drops a huge clue during the visit.

Really? After all these years not a single person has asked her that question? Not even True Detective super genius Rust? That was a bit of a stretch for me. Otherwise a great show, but the writers didn't think that one through enough unless we are to assume case closed/no questions asked once they murked Reggie...

The story arch requires it so. Why make Rust, this overly misanthropic dude with an acute aversion to any stimuli (this is a man that checks his pulse regularly to ensure that he isn't) for nearly the entirety of the show, get caught up on some R.Kelly Downlow shyt? Rust has done plenty of unconventional things, but he had a certain ethos. He did those things that that were wrong for a greater good in some utilitarian vein, so he was still someone of esteemed repute. What happened tonight was akin to Moses coming down from Mount Sinai with the 10 commandments, and seeing his people worship Baal, and joining them. Lol. I say this as an agnostic. And somehow, I'm crazy for thinking that's poor writing?

But in order to advance the story, there has to be a falling out between the two people. So what could cause such a drift? Either a girl or money, there are very few things that cause people to completely stop talking to each other.

I thought this interview was great. It really illustrated the problem a lot of characters on this show people in life have with following religion. They follow the small stuff (contraception is a sin) and ignore the big stuff (murdering your own kids is wrong).
