So rewatched the 5 episodes and it seems like their pointing towards the governor Edwin Tuttle (who they haven't shown but made mention of in the first episode) and his cousin Pastor Tuttle being leaders of the cult. I think some parts of the police force are also in on the conspiracy.

If you remember the end scene of episode 5 where Rust is inspecting the same school that he was asking questions about in episode 3, although he never got to go inside the school the first time he visited. If you remember in episode 3 they said that that was the school that the murdered girl attended and that Tuttle's foundation was the one that funded the school.

Reverend Tuttle was also the one who asked to put together the task force to help solve the case. Maybe he wanted to have control of the investigation. The murderer is clearly influenced by religion and spirtuality in some way. Even Rust becomes suspicious of the task force from 95 when he starts to take on the case again in 2002.

I think people are right when they say present-day Rust is interrogating the detectives and I think he's suspicious of the police precinct. In episode 5 when they ask him about why he's in the crime scene pictures he says "You guys kept this out of the press you must have some friends in high places" eluding to some possible government involvement. As he leaves he refers to the two cops as "company men" which to me makes me believe that he thinks their following orders going after him rather than going after the real killer.

The guy who was married to Dora Lang (forgot his name) says that Reggie Ledeax told him that theirs a place out in the woods where "rich" people go to worship. The fact that the guys are rich also got me thinking that this whole thing goes all the way up to the govenor and his reverend cousin. The other guy in 2002 who tells Rust that the "Yellow King" is still out there also mentions something about powerful people are involved. Another reason why I think the precinct may be in on it is that the cops who were outside of the interrogation room obviously heard Rust's interrogation with him because they heard the guy confess to the double homicide, so they obviously heard him mention the Yellow King. It could be possible that one or both of those cops alerted someone the "yellow king" or somene involved and they called the precinct as the guy's lawyer and told him that he needed to slit his wrist. Might've been a cop inside the precinct who gave him the weapon. We also see in episode 6 that Rust is going to confront the governor and ask him questions. The detectives even ask marty in episode 5 if Rust ever said anything about Billy Ray Tuttle.

*The other examples I'm going to bring up aren't as concrete but I think they might be some merit to them

The scene in I believe episode 2 where there inspecting the little playhouse or shack of the little girl who went missing. The woman said she hadn't inspected the shack since the police came by to inspect in earlier. When Rust and Marty look in they find the bird trap symbol found in every crime scene. Maybe someone involved in the police force whose down with the cult planted it.

I think its possible that the governor and his cousin are part of a religous cult and I think they might be indoctrinating people around the town. I have a crazy theory that that run down school that Rust is examining won't be the only school funded by Tuttle and we might find out that he's using these schools to indoctrinate children in the town including Aubrey. Aubrey mentions how the girls in her school were the ones who were teaching her about the sexual images in school. Later on she embraces the goth cultish look along with her friends and gets involved in a threesome. I think theres some influence within the school maybe the faculty themselves thats getting them to embrace the cult. But thats a crazy theory.

One minor small tidbit as well, anyone notice that Reverend Tuttle has a "Yellow" handkerchief in the one scene he's appeared in so far? :yeshrug:

:manny: One more thing. I looked up symbolic meanings at this website http://altreligion.about.com/od/symbols/a/Spirals.htm When you look at what its meant in terms of how it represents rebirth, the cyclical nature of the universe and how life repeats itself, it goes a lot with what Rust was talking about in terms of the membrane theory. Also the spiral's association with women is interesting considering the murderer has only murdered women. It seems like the cult leader is trying to give the message that the women will be reborn again. Transcendence has played a major theme on this show.

nope not crazy theory at all. definitely feel like the school system is involved i touched on that. the tuttle foundation funding the schools falls right into that theory. it wasn't only the 2 cops outside of the interrogation room who heard the confession. if you look closely a plain clothes cop walks past the window and as soon as the yellow king is mentioned he walks away. he went to alert (i believe) his relative the chief (or whatever title he held at the time). then after the cops escort him back to his cell after the phone call from his "lawyer" (how convenient the only call that cannot be monitored is ones between an inmate and his lawyer) the lanky cop says something to him. when they walk away it looks like the cop might have some marks on his face. not 100 on the facial scarring but i think i saw something. Rust says nothing is solved to the detectives. thats bc the head of the department doesn't want anything solved. things just get reSolved... people get put in positions not bc of merit but bc those in power want them there. Rust is on the computer looking up the record of the cop he is investigating and he appears to have a shyt load of charges but nothing sticks. all those unsolved crimes. all those bodies that should be linked are not being linked. Reggie had his spiral removed. that spiral was what linked the abbeville drowning to the others for Rust. with people thinking the true killer is dead the cult couldn't have bodies showing up with spirals anymore. imo the 2 Tuttles... the Sheriff/Chief and the lanky cop are definitely involved. who is left??

another partial theory is that Maggie was abused and so was the oldest daughter. I think there is something more to that "its just you and me" statement/confession she makes after Marty slaps the shyt out of her. when Rust is in their house after he cuts the grass he is looking at the girls watching tv. there is a pink and a yellow horse next to the oldest daughter. I think she has definitely been involved or seen something that she is carrying with her. I think that Maggie's father could be involved with his rant about how things used to be and his wife with her boys will be boys speech to Maggie over tea just comes across like a sheep.

in those class pics: besides the photo shopped girl, the main thing i notice is the facial expressions of the kids...in the older looking pic with the new chick in stripes, the majority of the kids look sad, depressed, and arent smiling...in the cleaner looking pic, all that changed....majority of the kids are smiling and look happy....so yea, that goes with the theory of the schools fukking the kids up....
