It definitely seems in that situation he panicked. I've driven in Colorado a few times and it doesn't take much to pick up speed. Seems like the panic consumed him and he made the worst decision due to it. Should he have gotten time? Absolutely. Because this is why those jobs are trained positions and he dropped the ball. But 110 years is ridiculous.

When you go for your DOT card and training, there’s a concept called defensive driving. When you’re driving your not looking at the vehicle infront of you but 30 yard ahead. Stopped traffic is foreshadowing. There’s no way he shouldn’t have been able to spot that situation before it got to that point of mercy.

I see commercial trucks driving reckless all the time on the beltway. And I try my best to distant myself from them. I had a lady friend who used to call the number in the back to report them. She said she got three drivers fired

She lied.

I swear y'all can't or don't read. He was going 85 mph MOMENTS BEFORE THE CRASH because his brakes failed miles before hand and that is the speed he picked up going downhill without brakes. He wasn't driving 85 mph before his brakes failed. If he had been he wouldn't have made it to the backed up traffic towards the bottom of the hill, he would have wrecked miles beforehand. I swear y'all are stupid sometimes.

No person should be sentenced to 110 yrs in this situation

Lol@people throwing race into it. I really believe part of the reason he got that sentence is because he's latino

But nobody deserves that.

10-25 yrs that's enough.. at 26 he gets out at 51 he's missed the prime of his life and did hard time

But to never be free again for this accident is not right at all.

If he had stabbed those people in the chest then life in prison would make sense

This was a vehicle malfunction and an accident

Alec Baldwin pointed a gun at someone show while working
It accidentally discharged live ammo and killed someone .. there's some negligence involved in that too.. is he or anyone gonna get life for that ?

He shouldn't... but I'm gonna guess he gets no time

You are trash for talking that bullshyt in the bolded

I drive trucks and go down step grades regularly. He was fully loaded and needed to be under 35mph before the downgrade and he needed to maintain that speed in a low gear with his engine/ jake brake on. He should notice anytime he goes beyond 40mph so he can apply the brake and get it below 35mph again. If he noticed he had trouble he had time to decide what to do. It takes time to go from a slow 35mph all the way to 85mph. He also should be checking his mirrors constantly so that’s not an excuse on why he didn’t notice his brakes smoking. That’s noticeable.

He was most likely distracted and didn’t notice until it was too late. That is why he was found guilty.

The years he was is OD but that is not why I even replied.
Exactly. Truck drivers are held to a higher standard since they are considered professional drivers and are trained what to do in this exact situation. Just like if a pro boxer gets into a fight on the street they get a harsher sentence.

Explain Why I am trash because I don't believe any person of any race should receive 110yrs for this crime ?

Because you are trying to dismiss people bringing up the disparity in responses based on the race.

If you can't see how a black person in that position would have been treated more harshly by the replies in that situation.....

You're changing the focus of my comment which was directed towards people saying that the responses to this situation would not call for leniency if the person was black

Which I completely disagree with and I think people saying that are "trash" because I would advocate for a much lighter sentence for ANY person in this situation because I believe the sentence is absurd, ridiculous , and goes way overboard based on the details

Clown

If the driver was inpaired, or distracted then fine but because he made an error in judgement while driving no . I don't believe he should get 110 years

The max in my opinion should be 25 regardless of if he is black, white or purple

I agree.. Can't lie, I call bullshyt

Look at the wording. He realized his breaks were bad

1. As a truck driver you supposed to do a pre-trip on your truck. He would have known the brakes were malfunctioning before getting on the highway.

2. Say the breaks were fine, then got bad while driving. Brakes don't just "go bad" out of nowhere if they were originally in perfect condition. Let's be real, his 85 mph driving on a steep hill caused him to constantly hard press on the breaks causing them to overheat and burn out. He most likely caused the breaks to burn because he doesn't know how to slow the truck down

3. There are Jake brakes and Engine Breaks he could have used

4. The runway ramps before the accident does him in as well

He definitely should get some time, 10-15 years IMO
None of your points make sense tho. A jake brake is the engine brake. Using The transmission is another form of braking.
His brakes stopped working because of him overusing them during the downward hill in that stretch of highway. His speed increased because he couldn’t slow down while going down a hill.He should’ve had the truck in a low gear to control the speed so he could effectively brake if necessary.
