Petition to honor Houston's 'Mattress Mack' gets support

Jim McIngvale, better known as "Mattress Mack," decided to turn his two Gallery Furniture showrooms in the city into evacuation shelters.

"I decided we’d open the store and make it a shelter for all the people who were disaffected," McIngvale recently told ABC News. "We have these giant 24-foot box trucks that can get through 5 to 6 feet of water. We sent 'em out, picked up about 200 people. They were stranded on bridges, they were stranded in convenience stores, they were walking through the water with snakes and alligators, and we brought 'em out here."

McIngvale said he's not concerned at all about his merchandise and still plans to sell it after the storm.

"We’ll have a Harvey floor model sale, or something. I’ll come up with some shtick," he said with a laugh. "These people are nice. They’re taking care of the furniture. Furniture’s made to be sat on, slept on, laid on, whatever. It's just a product. It ain't gonna hurt it."

Since Sunday, Gallery Furniture estimates it's had 400 people seek shelter at both stores. It's also become a crash pad for National Guard members who have been deployed to the area.

Gunspoint is definitely the first on the list..
Being only 30-45 minutes away from the Woodlands..
Gunspoint Mall was already on the list of closing and its built near JFK..
They would love to gentrify that part of the North..
And probably will try to run game on those old communities in Memorial/Town and Country and buy them out or finesse them some kind of way..
Yep. If you got some cheese go and buy....ill be looking.

I'm overwhelmed. The thought of going to my house today just... it's hitting me hard today everything. I don't even want to go and I don't know if it's going to be ok. And I don't want to talk to anyone and I want to scream. Someone asked me to tell my story in the other thread. I keep deleting the post. I keep telling myself I'm lucky but seeing everything...I'm alive and it's material but it was my life and it's gone. It's rotting in the yard.

It gets better, just keep in mind material things can be replaced and they are just that material. Keep in the front of your mind whats most important and that's family health and friends.

hold your head breh tough times don't last just have to remember you can always rebuild I know initially this shyt is going to probably be the worst thing to happen to you but you have your life and you already said it you're blessed. Like somebody else said let it out breh being strong and holding it in will only drive you more crazy. It's a natural disaster it was literally nothing you could do bro but what you can do is START the process of wrapping your mind around what you have/need to do in order to move forward. Well wishes to you breh if you ever in Los Angeles drop a pin. 1

Thank you. It's like the more we cleaned the worse it got, it was just a lot. I had been like in a bubble of safety with my family I was just so happy not to have to be in a shelter and having power food and clothes. I just have to deal with it and keep cleaning.

Yea its just hard when you have to see it sitting there. I'll be ok though.
When I was able to get back into the house after the water went down and I saw everything just floating around and flipped over it was one of the most depressing feelings. But it was a reality check for me. I have no doubt you'll bounce back just don't let it crack you mentality

I finally got to go home. It flooded on my first floor, but the second floor was fine. I lost about 25% of my stuff to the flooding. But it's nothing that can't be replaced. Thanks for checking in :salute:
