Fightful: Details on the new "WWE Speed" concept

Ahead of last night's Smackdown, two matches took place, with some interesting branding surrounding the ring.

Matches featuring wrestlers from different brands took place with ‘WWE Speed’ logos on the ring, and five minute timers counting down during the bout

According to Fightful, these matches were filmed as if they’d be broadcasted. Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick were also reportedly on commentary.

While Fightful hasn’t heard of any specific plans, it was noted that NXT talent working pre-show matches was previously reserved for Main Event, which is taped ahead of Raw.

This would indicate that WWE Speed could be a secondary taped show similar to WWE Main Event but for Smackdown, however this hasn’t been confirmed.

During these WWE Speed tapings, NXT star Nathan Frazer faced off against Raw star Bronson Reed. NXT’s Axiom also went one-on-one with Cedric Alexander.

Charlotte Flair is slated to undergo knee surgery in the weeks ahead: speaking to one source about the injury, it was described as "likely worse than" just a torn ACL and that there were additional knee injuries

I wonder what tv deal and in what country is Speed being made for. Because WWE certainly doesn’t need another nothing show to fill time before Smackdown

More on WWE Speed that wasn't shared before:

WWE debuted a new concept at Friday's SmackDown taping, WWE Speed.

On WWE Speed, matches have five-minute time limits. The winner of the match receives one point, the loser of the bout is docked one point, and if the bout goes to a time limit draw, no points are awarded or deducted. A five-minute countdown clock appears on the video wall during the contest.

The Speed concept appears to be a TV show pilot or perhaps for a digital media property, as commentators Corey Graves & Kevin Patrick were calling the matches as if the show was being produced for broadcast. A WWE Speed logo was displayed on the video wall as well as the ring apron and ring posts during the taping.
