When I first started working out, my incline was lower. I was building myself up, so I didn't want to damage and strain my body(legs) by doing too much.

Now I'm maxed out at high incline (10.0). I run on that for 15-20 mins straight / 2x a day / 5 days. I start at 3.7 speed and end at 4.5/4.6 (it's not easy :mjcry: but I get it done)

Don't strain your body brehs. Slow motion is better than no motion.
The funny thing is if you do 15% incline you burn more calories by going 4.3 mph than you would going 4.7 mph...at least that's what it says on the treadmills at my gym.

I do quarter mile sprints between 7 & 8.5 speed with an incline @ 2.5 at the most. I try to do 8’which would be 2 miles... but I mostly do 4 and finish up with steady state cardio on an elliptical

im 5”11 around 270 pounds of fat I been starting to work out on the tredmill every day for at least 30 minutes starting out.

So question I been exercising on max incline which is 10 for me and running at around 8 to 9.7 mph for around 30 mins per day.

Am I losing more by doing this or would it not make a difference compared to if I were running the same 30 mins with 0 incline and the same speeds?

If I can lose more weight this way about how much more cals would I be burning extra going the route I’m currently going on the high incline?

i guess congrats @ running at that speed and incline, but i'm sure you're beating the hell out of your joints. you'd be better doing a few HIIT sessions a week on a bike and then walking on a 10-15 incline @ about 4 mph for 45 mins a few sessions a week until you drop closer to 200lbs. this activates muscle and puts you in the cardio zone

lastly, if you really want to get a good estimate of cals burned invest in a heart rate monitor with a chest strap, most accurate wearable IMO for tracking fitness activity.

With all due respect I call bullshyt on this. I've never seen anyone run that long at that speed on 10% incline at any gym I've been to. Especially not anyone your size.

I'm not going to go straight to calling intentional BS, but are you sure you don't mean actually mean 8 km/h and not 8 mph? 8 kph is a 12 min mile (which sounds reasonable given the other info we have) but 8 mph is a 7:30 mile. Even if you're taking half the time off that's...a little harder to believe.
I'm going to ignore that you mentioned that you peak at 9.7 mph, that's just :wtf:.

I second the idea of getting a heart rate monitor. Not just to monitor your calories, but also your "heart rate zones", e.g.:
Polar Heart Rate Zones | Polar USA

A couple of years ago when I used to run I used to run, I used to run solidly in zone 5 for 45 min straight all the time. But keep doing that long term and you'll probably burn your heart out. You're not really supposed to keep your heart rate in zone 5 for more than a couple of minutes at a time.

Now when I run I'm constantly checking that I'm not stuck with an insanely high heart rate.

Honestly, don't even worry about the incline.

I'm 188 lbs (started at 226 lbs, goal is 175 lbs @ 5'8"). The incline adds a bit of a challenge, but it's not really necessary until you've built up endurance and pace...it just tires out your legs.

Focus on maintaining a certain speed and running without stopping...aim for 30 to 60 minutes. When a certain speed is too easy, run at a faster speed...keep doing this for awhile and then introduce incline running.

I started doing incline as a way to prevent shin splints. I only do 1-2 incline though. I gotta call ducktales on the numbers you posted too, running 4-5 miles in 30 min with that kinda incline is world athlete status fam, you probably miscalculating the speed the incline or both
i'm 5'11 190lbs and run 3 miles on 1 or 2 incline a couple times a week and that usually takes me 30-40 minutes with my speed in the 4.5-6.5 range

I'm not that familiar with treadmills (since I usually run outside) so I didn't pay much attention to the incline numbers. Does "10" mean 10% incline? If so :dahell:.

If you plug in the numbers:
How to Calculate an Elevation Gain for a Treadmill | Livestrong.com

The OP would have to be climbing over 2000 ft in 30 min running at 8MPH . :damn::dead:.

Interesting thread, but :troll:.

When I'm not regular running on the treadmill, my treadmill stats are incline 15, speed 4.4. This burns a 1000+ calories per hour but its VERY hard to do longer than 10 - 15 minutes, and nah, I never did it longer than 10 - 15 minutes at those numbers. When I first started going to the Gym I did do incline for an hour which burned 500 calories in a hour, I forgot the incline/speed number to get that calorie burn though.

I'm 6,1, around 200 pounds. I was 240 when I started in Nov 2017, don't give up breh :myman:

Similar story, I'm 6'1 and weighed 236lbs at my heaviest. Now I'm 186-190lbs.

With your amount of weight I wouldn’t do incline. Stay flat until you can tone and build up muscles, unless it’s tolerable. Also if you’re able to swim do it! It will burn an enormous amount of calories for up to 72 hours (hence swimmers body) you’re carrying a lot of weight so remember to change diet , keep a gallon water jug (or quart) with you. Snack every two hours, double meals intake but count calories. Can’t use just exercise. Has to be a layered approach if you overall goal is fitness and losing weight. Also try and get a partner. Your struggle and pain is better when shared. Lastly, know your body type and metabolism for your age. Good luck!

this is wrong on so many levels, incline helps to strengthen muscles and reduce the load on you knees/joints. incline treadmills (or walking hills) is one of the best things to do if overweight (rowing, spin, elliptical and swimming are all also good options)

I also said unless it’s tolerable. I don’t know his entire history, injuries etc so to keep down on injuries because of his weight he mentioned , I’d proceed with caution. I’ve run mountains, hills and trained for special forces events and completed some pretty demanding training in addition to being a physical fitness instructor. None of that stopped me from being injured and I’ve never been heavier than 220lbs. Elliptical are great and I did mention swimming because it buffers your joints. He mentioned his weight and it’s significant when doing high angled movements on joints. Fractures, splits, tears in extremities to include your flexors and glutes. Hence a multidimensional approach is going to produce a better overall result, just my opinion. If it works out keep it going! I also err on the side of caution because not everyone is ‘my’ definition of in shape. Go too hard too fast and get an injury without conditioning is frustrating. One competitor we did called for us to run a mile and half in a gas mask and shoot at targets with rifles, pistols and machine guns. We all started out fast and almost all of us trotted to the finish line. By the time I raised up the pistol to shoot I felt like lead. Everything gutted, even my eyeballs. Over time though it got better.

I'm going to make this short and sweet for you, and this is the truth

Use the elliptical stairs fukk everything else at the gym for cardio
