I'm not denying his talent but he wasn't even the best singer of his era. Otis Redding was better IMO. I only have Sam higher because Otis died prematurely. But I feel you. Sam is a legend but he's never wowed me outside of Change is Gonna Come as an otherworldly vocalist.LIVE shows were amazing. Immortal songs. Stevie Wonder is a few levels behind him...Whitney Houston speaks for itself. Him out of the top 3 is a insult to common sense, logic, and history. Disgusting really. Lol@nothing unique about his voice. Good Times is better than 95% of the catalog of any artist mentioned.. Bring It On Home To Me is the definition of talent in the music industry.
Honorable mention but Prince was many things. A vocalist not among them. More of a musician/entertainer than a vocalist.Where's Prince Breh?
Who could hit those notes on Kiss, Do Me Baby, Purple Rain, I Wanna Be Your and replicate them live every show?
My bad, you're right. He is one of the many artists who could use his voice AS it's own instrument. What with his B6 range. He could also reach an F5. You put Beyonce there as a vocalist ahead on Fantasia and Jaguar Wright and omit Prince. Never heard a Beyonce song and thought wow what a voice.Honorable mention but Prince was many things. Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson are two I completely forgot about. Can't remember them all.My bad, you're right. He is one of the many artists who could use his voice AS it's own instrument. Interesting fact about Donnys This Christmas. He played the bass on that song strictly on his electric keyboard. There was no actual bass guitarist. It's all being played by Donny from his keyboard.Donny Hathaway's "This Chrismas" is THE best Christmas Song EVER. It feels like the season above almost any other, it is fun, it fits anywhere, the band is great, and Donny's tunes have so much soul...
Only "oh holy night" by Pavoratti, and Christmas in Hollis are in it's zip code, but they aren't on it's block
2:40 especially...
Paul Robeson lives
I had Nat as an Honorable mention. Never heard of any of the others you mentioned outside of Sade and she isn't a "vocalist" to me. Apologies. One cannot possibly be aware of every singer. My list includes the ones I am most familiar with.Off the top you have Mahalia at 50. Then you're missing Nat King Cole, Shirley Bassey, Paul Robeson, Norm Lewis and Sade. And then you put K-Ci on any top 50 list.
And then there's Eric Holloway.
I'm making the effort to not call you a complete blasphemer here
Thank you. I forgot about Maxwell. Monica, Roberta and Ant are honorable mentions. Not familiar with the others you mentioned though I have heard of Phyllis.Great list. I would throw in Phyllis Hyman, Anthony Hamilton, Monica, Teedra Moses, Maxwell, Roberta flack, and a bunch more but what a nice comprehensive list with reasoning.
Phyllis Hyman is like one of those your favorite singers favorite singer. Amazing vocally. Also adding in Leona Lewis, that girl can sing. Lalah Hathaway as an honorable mention because she has that similar rapsyness like her father. White singers like Florence welsh has an amazing voice too.Thank you. I forgot about Maxwell. Monica, Roberta and Ant are honorable mentions. Not familiar with the others you mentioned though I have heard of Phyllis.
