Forgot all about moon. I mean it was alright but jesus christ it was such a basic film with a simple plot. There was nothing great about it.

The most interesting thing it did was not make the artificial intelligence evil. Other than that it really was just a (well-made) space thriller.

It's the standard casual fan's favorite film because it ran off the biggest posthumous push in history (cult status rental and TV time - there are plenty of films which would've had a similar following if they had the same push). The over-sentimentality, universal message and general plain Jane subject matter - led those to rate it based on how it appealed to them and/or how much they liked it, not by any film measuring scale - which really applies to how 99% of the world rate films.
