I think they are overrated.
Largely due to poor pacing and not enough editting to streamline the movie, especially Godfather 2.
I'm a fan of the more sharper paced movies like Scarface or Goodfellas

Not every beloved movie are all time classics.

Rocky and star wars empire strike back are also one of the most beloved movies of the 80s and of all time also and both of them still holds up to this day and were legit classics of that 80s decade.

Some beloved movies are all time classics and some aren't.

The goonies and et are not all time classics. They don't even hold up nowadays.
