I found these artists with the “there is good music, you just have to find it” method that people talk about here. Imagine if people like this had a song played on radio, or was put on one of these big playlists.. They could be outta here.
And the average person does not have this time. Between working longer hours and kids, folks don’t have time to go digging for new shyt, especially when that’s the ask any time you open Spotify or Netflix or look for a book on your Kindle, etc. access to everything doesn’t make things better for most people

I don't even know what dude is trying to argue:mjlol:. Doesn't it take 750 million streams to even go gold:mjlol:?

In this era, which everyone in this thread has brought up, music has much less staying power, so to be able to get a gold certification is damn near a miracle.

That is because an industry is trying to adapt to how people consume music. If they didn't count streaming numbers, the numbers would be horrible and a lot of them still are. You do know this is a large reason why this thread exists.

And people making this into a "Well, it's harder to sell music now" argument are laughable. All you need now is a wi-fi and access to one of the major platforms to stream an album.

There are people that really think this got staying power?

shyt just dead and microwavable.

It's disrespectful to Chuck E. Cheese (an actual product with value) to even be mentioned in the same sentence as this crap.

This is terrifying, just the idea of this being the music 8/9/10 yr olds consume.

Rappers dropping 2 albums per year don't help either
Yea, and then you got stars like Chris brown who drop 30+ song projects and wonder why it don’t pop. You too old and too big for that. Give a strong 13 song effort and let that shyt breathe. Even when we sat with albums for months on end, there’s a reason double CD’s we’re rare and looked at as a big deal. That’s a lot of hubris to assume people want to sit with 25-30 tracks from you at once.

because of the internet

This really is what is at the core of it because I'm now pretty certain the internet was a weapon unleashed upon the consciousness of humanity and like most poisons is very sweet to the senses whilst being destructive to the system. All you have to do is look at whats happened to the world, especially in terms of creativity and it becomes Self evident that its almost vampiric in its nature and essence but that is a deeper topic.

There’s more avenues to get your music out than any other era, but actual sales doesn’t match up. Basically, it can LOOK like you’re way more famous/known/popular than you actually are. But it makes sense for this era, cause apparently, clout > money.

only good thing is with all the lean & pills they'll consume, they won't be able to shoot up schools

The drugs aspect is very interesting because EVERYBODY started lighting up once The Chronic dropped and made it hot as the music was created with that vibe in mind and it made it bump better whilst scratching the itch you didn't know you had till you got lit. I'd be willing to wager its the same with modern kids but with more brain cells going missing in the process of each repeat hit hence why it seems so basic to us.

Back then when G Funk started popping this old West Indian cat dismissed it as "Genocide rhymes over stolen beats to cover up the lack of talent" as well as commenting on how getting blunted was the exact opposite of what you needed to be in this world to function and how that was especially important as a yoot. Looking back I see how true it was but when you're hooked on phonics its easy to fall into the trench they dig as these pied pipers of consciousness pull the strings of your (un)awareness in directions they're probably not even aware they're being steered.

Its deeper than rap and as I've matured and expanded my awareness beyond the grasps of this realm the bigger picture is something else and the implications of being in a body, on a planet, that floats through the abyss generate a level of consciousness with which disconnection from the madness of crowds in order to seek the solace of union within is the only sane option.

In many ways the medium is the message (and vice versa as well) and that should be more than enough to pause and reflect on where we're headed as a collective with who is paving this road to hell because the next generation always pays the bill for the previous ones ignorance hence the 'scripts get stronger as they need a higher hit to numb themselves from the pain they've inherited like a psychosocial landfill.

Too much shyt drops nowadays and barely any of it has staying power. Can't forget to mention most of the shyt sounds the same anyway.

It's too easy to make songs to try to go viral/get on with a song that takes off on tiktok/IG with just one half-ass verse.

Most new shyt that comes out people really just listen to for IG captions or to play on their stories lol. Keeping up with new shyt is damn near a full time job, I stick with my few artists I fukk with and keep it moving nowadays for the most part.
