This is like if Knicks stans I grew up with had their way and got to retire Oak, Starks, and Anthony Mason's jerseys because "they defined an era." Which seems like a fukkin joke... but for local fans it's kind of cool. I think I might like this move. Gotta contemplate it a little longer.

Bruce Bowen jersey is retired by the Spurs and they have actual Hall of Famers so this passes the test for an organization this young
Bowen was a notable contributor to THREE championships though. You best believe he wouldn't have gotten his jersey retired if they didn't win those titles.

Retiring numbers is different for every organization, some retire numbers when a active player dies some don't. Some retire numbers only if you make the hof some don't.

I bet all my coli cash Nick Collison will be the first number the thunder retire.

Never averaged more than 9 points never played 30 mpg

From a personal standpoint, I'm happy for dude, but looking at this shyt objectively, it sets a strange precedent. If the standard is set at Allen and Z-Bo, obviously M.Gasol and Conley will have theirs retired - all four players who range from good to standard All-Stars. What happens when the same caliber of players come through and last just as long? What happens when BETTER players come through and last just as long? Or players who have multiple All-Star nods and/or take the team on multiple deep playoff runs? Or if they win a title?

I get that both Allen and Z-Bo shaped the ipseity of the franchise, both on and off the court, but so will players in the future when the team changes and takes on another identity. If they're the bar, this team might run out of space in the rafters to hang jerseys before 2040.

:hubie:

But that's the point, this isn't about the HOF this about the people that made a major impact for that franchise. Tony Allen isn't some alright defender he's legendary however that won't get him to the HOF so he deserves some level of recognition.

I also think a guy like Varejao should get a jersey retired too.

Yea i don't get it. With Zach I somewhat see it, but it seems forced & unnecessary from the outside looking in. But I'm not a Grizzlies fan or from Memphis so :manny:
Zach and Tony impact not the same as Joe/Horford/Smith impact , Zach and Tony changed the franchise around

Gasol and Conley are misfits?? They have only been with the Grizzlies and were pegged as key franchise pieces early on

Allen a castaway? A key bench player on a championship team
I mean like, they were castaways before their playoff success. Marc was just a piece in the Pau trade, Allen signed a quick deal after the Celtics declined, Conley with the underrated label his whole career. I’m saying they came together and formed a pretty solid core

I'm going to miss the Grit-n-Grind Era. :mjcry:

2 Pistols statue should be built in North Memphis and Z-Bo statue should be built in South Memphis. :wow:

Has there ever been 2 players that represented the culture of a city like 2 Pistols and Z-Bo. :wow:
