Am im missing something or is everybody mad at the photographer and not the bum who pushed the dude on tracks from the get go.

Well one can chalk that up to mental issues and the like. You push a man into incoming train like that you have serious mental issues. You could also say the Asian guy should have known better than to argue with a bum. However, the people on that platform happened to be sane, saw a mans life in danger and instead took their phones, cameras and ipads out and did nothing.

Everyone involved took L's basically. Apparently the only "positive" thing about the whole incident we're left with is that a coward took a photo and now "we're discussing it."

There's no way he could of pulled him out

how do you arrive at that? Plus the photographer wasn't alone up there. I counted at least 3 other people who biotched out too. I hope dude was yelling at them for help and they here his voice for years.

Too old too frail

It's a sad story either way, without the pic nobody is even discussing it today

honestly though i didn't know people were dying like that on a regular basis. Without the pics i simply wouldn't have known. Plus putting a face to a problem will always "personalize" it and draw attention to it.

Why don't they have like "safety areas" on the track where you can like lay down or tuck into?

You're right, If he had put his camera down and instead tried to help the man, we probably wouldn't be discussing this incident.

He's not that old and I take it you have never experienced old man strength.

First of all, I'm not defending this lame in any way, but saying he had 22 secs is a bit misleading.

It's not like there was a timer counting down to when the train would hit the guy.....you see a nearby train coming, you know how fast those things move, you don't know how long you have to react.

Even if he had, by the time he got down on the platform to try and pull the guy up the train was quickly approaching and would've killed him too. 2 people could've pulled him out, but one, probably not.

The disgusting part is taking the picture and having the urge to sell it/use it for ur benefit. Then attaching that afwul headline to it.

If you lived here you wouldn't be surprised by it and know about whats going on I guess.

If you keep flat between the two rails you should be fine. Depending on the station theres a divider and another set of rails but you have to look out for the third line.
:manny:

I swear if the local news is on someone got hit by a train.

I'm not sure if I believe the number they put up inside the trains.

Ok.
The Real...
SOme people don't know about the epidemic of train deaths. Had this picture not existed a large swath of the people wouldn't know the problem existed. It's sorta like the way school violence wasn't really an issue till Columbine. Once it get's publicity then it get's discussed for a week and then off to the new flavor of the day.

It's not a huge problem by any means. The crane deaths the city keeps seeing is a bigger issue in my eyes.
In the end it's really not about the trains or the subway platforms but the homeless and mentally unstable people around the city.

This is what NYC is all about, people are so self aware that they forget the others around them, if you getting fu*ked up do not expect strangers to jump in, if you slip and fall on the floor breaking your legs they will keep walking around you with Horse blinders on.

:what: No it isn't.

Of course it is. We live by a set of laws, not emotions. We can use our emotions, rationality and ethics to mold laws.

The man was not legally obliged to do anything in helping that man.

If we are questioning his ethical stance, so be it. I personally would feel that he could of helped and should have helped, but he wasn't obligated to help.

Nor should he be obligated to help.

shyt is getting tired, how the electorate's first response to EVERYTHING revolves around morals and ethics and misses the big picture

Your misreading me. What I'm saying is that the conversation sparked by the photo was about the ethical behavior of the photographer, not about the problem of yearly subway deaths. The conversation you want to happen isn't the primary effect of the photo.

like I said before, y'all are faking emotion

If there's no picture, y'all don't care. If there's no picture, nobody puts on their "I'm a hero in every situation" cape. Lets just be real, our electorate ain't shyt. And if this situation plays out 10 times, that guy's is only gonna get rescued twice.

*waits patiently for a stanford research paper*

What do these points have to do with the larger argument? Maybe some people are reaching, maybe people are indifferent, etc, but this seems like a tangent to me.
