Some things aren't worth arguing about. He's not proselytizing. I don't see any entitlement on his end. Just seems like a good dude who is happy about what he has and he points to God for it. If you find that unreasonable that's fine but there's no need to beat him over the head with it. My best friend in college was atheist, and I never ever felt the need to disagree with what I felt were some of his more extreme views because they were minor in the greater scheme of things. I just think you need need to put a face on this. If some old black woman came in thanking the lord for bringing her child home safe from war, would you really be arguing with her about the statistical probabilities and logic of it and why her son and not other people's sons'....say this women is a social worker and a quality person, is it really warranted to try to beat her over the head...

I'll admit that in life (basically whenever I'm not on this board) that I'm not a very argumentative person unless it calls for it. But this guy wasn't doing anything you just talked about (unless things have changed since I was last in here). It's like you didn't read the thread. There's not entitlement on his end. He did nothing wrong. Let that man be happy. Come on fam...in another thread, in another scenario with a guy pushing his views I'd side with you, but this...come on...this is venturing into "I have to argue everything" territory. That's what @Jutt and @MeachTheMonster were getting at. I know it's HL, and I get it, but I just don't see the point.

I don't find your points unfair, but note that I didn't engage in religion-bashing, personal attacks, or any kind of "atheist" promotion. I also specifically responded to one post, and not to his general sharing- the one where he said that we focus on the people God doesn't save instead of the people he does- I only extracted the logical conclusions of the points offered, because I find that line of thinking (let's focus on the people he saves and not those he doesn't) unreasonable and pernicious, since it's the antithesis of all socially-conscious religious and nonreligious stances, and since the op welcomed all comments, I just dropped my 2 cents about that viewpoint. I didn't come in here to hate on the op.

The op set up with "I know a lot of people here make fun of Christianity, but I just wanted to share that God worked for me," so it's not as if this was an instance of simple sharing between the faithful before the party was crashed. If someone came up to me irl and said exactly that- "I know you don't get down with Christianity, but let me share an instance in which God worked for me," then asked for comments, as the op did, I'd respond similarly.

I'm pretty explicit about my position here- I don't hate religion in general, nor have I ever stuck antireligious points in anyone's face. In fact, many religious philosophers have made (and even created) the same arguments I made in this thread. That being said, again, I understand that my posts were probably seen as part of a larger response to this thread, and I can't blame him for that. I do stand by my specific statements, though.
