I'm far stronger than I was in my 20s. I can still dunk pretty easily as well.

Only noticeable difference is that it takes longer to recover from injuries. Other than that, probably slightly slower in terms or speed.

Man fukk basketball. I've said it multiple times but think I mean it this time. I'm 39. Played in two leagues right before covid hit. That was my first time playing in about 3 years due to a fracture in the ankle and then a surgery a year later to clean up bone spurs. I couldn't shoot for shyt in the first season plus played on a team with a bunch of selfish fukks that just kept jacking threes despite them shooting like 20%. No off ball movement, no picks. Half the team wouldn't even cross halfcourt when it came time to play D. I was still solid on D and passing though. Second league I came out killing. Much better team, I was hitting 3 three pointers a game, a block or two a game and mad steals. Then Covid hit.

Didn't play for a year. Joined a league again finally so we met to play some pickup ball to get to know each other. In one session took a shoulder to the jaw that caused a loud cracking sound, could barely open my mouth after. Hyper extended my knee trying to drive to the basket after getting hit in the air. With the way I landed I fell knee first with the other knee to the ground causing it to bust open and start leaking. Should've stopped playing then but figured I'd finish out the game. fukked around and rolled each ankle on back to back plays. This was all like two weeks before going to Jamaica too. So I was just going to say fukk it and not play no more.

Came back from Jamaica and played. Half our team didn't show so I had to play the whole 40 minute game even though I hadn't played in a month. Going up for a rebound and collided with somebody in mid air and went down flat on my back which somehow caused my knee to start hurting. Then rolled my ankle again. Now sitting here barely able to walk lol. This for sure my last season playing.

It’s time breh :pachaha::pachaha:

I’m not laughing at you getting injured, but just that your body clearly doesn’t want you playing competitive basketball anymore.

fukk that basketball shyt. I moved on to non athletic white people sports like hiking and biking.
I used to play everyday from 13-14 until 32, that’s when I landed on my ankle trying to get a fast break layup. Never even went to the doctor. last time I played I rolled my left ankle playing at lunch, tried to keep going because I’m not soft then rolled the other trying to crossover :sadcam:I went left and my ankle was like:mjtf:why would you put my 35 years old ass through that type of quick cut :hubie:so now I’m on the ground with two sore ankles and I still have to go back to work. :beli: I finished the game, played a few more time that month but that was 3 years ago. I’m 37 and over it

Agree, tore my Achilles at age 38 (I'm 41 now) playing with phukin teenagers. Mind you, the day I went to the park was so my 8 year old could shoot around (I had no intention of playing whatsoever).

I actually turned them down two times, because they needed an extra man. A few minutes later, they asked me a third time. I was like fine. :obama:

About 10 minutes into the game, I'm feeling good and decided to horse this kid for a rebound....I swear I never felt so high up in the air grabbing that rebound :cape:

I remember looking at the youngin, in the air while grabbing the rebound :birdman:

When I landed, my phukin foot literally felt like it melted through the asphalt (I'm talking T1000 liquid metal type feeling) I never felt that sensation before or since. :deadrose:

I instantly knew I tore my Achilles:damn:

Youngins on the court were looking at me like :dahell: damn this old dude is :flabbynsick:

The entire walk home my son was looking at me like :wtf:

My ankle is all healed up, I feel great! I've done a lot of running and jogging on it since, but I'll be damned if I ever play ball full force again. :camby:

That was me when I got the ankle fracture. Had just done a full leg session on the weights close to wrapping up. Some dudes I had played with before came over telling me they need one more so I figured why not get a little cardio in. I was taking it light until we lost a game and dudes started talking shyt. I got pissed and started going hard. I was killing these dudes but went up fighting for a rebound and landed on his foot. I've played through a rolled ankle plenty of times so finished the game even though my foot was killing me. Told them I need to sit out the next one and sat down. Went from finishing the game with a limp to being unable to move my foot without excruciating pain within that five minutes. After the bone spur surgery took like a year and a half before it felt strong enough that I stopped thinking about it. It really ain't worth it as much as I love playing.

I feel you, unless you’re independently wealthy and can afford the possibility of being out of commision for a few months it’s just not worth it.

And I can’t picture myself playing ball at half-effort.

It’s crazy how much and how quickly I declined, particularly after COVID. But I guess it makes sense. I’m 35 now and I let my weight get out of control. I’ve literally lost ALL speed I used to have. shyt even feels weird being slow when you’ve spent your whole life being quick/fast.

I've been 6'4 since I was damn near 14 with no bunnies, so I've been playing like Zach Randolph for most of my life.

Save for a calf tear a couple years ago on a freak move and fukking up both my pinky fingers, my game remains pretty much the same - back down baby hook, back down Pat Ewing fade, pick and pop at the top of the key/3, grab some rebounds and swat any little nikka that tries to come in the paint.

Haven't balled since COVID but the year prior was some of the best shape I've been in at 32-33 and I was running with 19-20 year olds at my old job at NYUs gym for 4-6 hours straight. Legs might be a little sore after, but I'm good to go. I miss it. :mjcry:

yo when they need a another man, and if you looking somewhat athletic, saying no is not an option lol. Don’t be tall and wearing your gear, it’s a wrap. shyt you could be tall and I’m a suit and they won’t leave you alone

Lowkey exposal thread

old heads ain’t on nothin :flabbynsick:
Don't underestimate them old man fundamentals. Before I fukked my ankles up had one of my favorite games ever. Had two white dudes and myself all 35+ playing three college age guys. Before the game they was dunking and talking shyt. We back cut and passed them dudes to death. Beat em 4 straight going to 11. I don't think they ever got past 3 points just cause we knew how to switch and cut off lanes since none of us could guard them one on one and none of em had a consistent J.

Most of them kids was just trying to shoot 3s out there so it was food for me. Very few had a consistent shot, no one gave a fukk about post play, including guys my height and even then they were tall but lanky as fukk.

Few dared to drive in and when they did they got their shyt sent back. So mostly easy rebounds, outlet and buckets on the break.I remember one game against this frail ass 6'6 Asian kid that I easily had 60 lbs on, not my proudest moment hoeing someone, but shyt was a massacre :banderas:.

Best games were always with the older heads. Slow it down, beat the youngins methodically. Used to clown when teachers would play with us, now I'm out here playing with Adjunct Professors that got a mean midrange game.

The circle of life. :blessed:

Goddamn I feel old right now.:mjcry:
