The people that think IQ is a good metric to judge a person's intellect are low-thinking people.

It's a hazy area. I wouldn't call them low thinkers but rather people who have a very narrow understanding of intelligence. When i think of IQ intelligence I think of Mensa, an organization whose first goal, years ago, was to gather intelligent people to "make a difference". Has Mensa done this? I don't think so.

Now IQ tests do measure intelligence, but a specific type of intelligence - cognitive ability. It does not measure rationality, which is required for problem solving and is a critical subset of intelligence. A rational mind is able to come up with solutions in all manner of situations. So inteligence requires the knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge to everyday challenges and situations - most people know this though.

As for Amethyst, I have no beef with her based on the little I've seen. I just think she's part of what makes TheColi an interesting place to observe

As for everything else... I dunno... I like Amethyst as a poster and I don't see it being that hard to believe that she went to boarding school and Yale. That's not that big of a leap.

Hell I went to boarding school and a pretty decent University (Vandy), I have a brother who got into Harvard(didn't go for financial reasons) and I have several friends who went to top level universities.

And most all of them are pretty much indistinguishable besides from their vocabulary and overbearing corniness .



Honestly... I'm 6 years removed from college and I have realized that undergrad doesn't really mean that much in terms of overall intellect

Yea, certain people's brains work well that way, I took a good bit of linguistics in college and @Amethyst saying she also speaks french is in alignment with her claims of well above average intelligence

to be fair, my friend is lucky because his grandparents all come from different tribal areas, so he came up hearing 4 native languages, plus wolof, plus french, and now speaks english after living in the states and switzerland.

before a baby turns 3, they can learn to process languages almost as easily as crying, it's amazing

it's an evolutionary confluence of aural recognition, cognitive organizing, and oral flexibility and musculature that allows some people to get language. feel bad for those who dont tbf

1) Thinks D- average students at Yale can graduate and that it's possible for a Yale student to get that many D-'s.
There are many problems with this.

First, a D- is the lowest passing grade and most reputable schools require a 2.0 (below 2.0 one semester typically means academic probation) to gradate, only grades C- or > are accepted. So in theory you couldn't even graduate with all C- grades since that would net about 1.7, so no, you can't graduate with all D-'s.

Second, if you know anything about elite colleges (besides maybe the hardcore science ones like MIT/Caltech) you'd know that getting a D- average (less than a 1.0 GPA) is next to impossible, you'd have to seriously neglect your courses to do that badly.

The average at Yale is around a 3.5 (Yale University) for several reasons (the kids are all pretty smart, if people can't hang in the hard majors they'll switch to easier ones - which is fine because a BA in sociology from Yale is still worth a lot, and the grade curves are pretty generous allowing most of the class to get a B grade or better).

You've got to be a real retard or fukk up to get lower than a C in an Ivy League undergraduate class.
