This doesn't bother me since in many cases I see it as just a conversation piece. Now, if she's asking you within the first few questions of ever meeting you, then that's a rd flag. But if you've two have had a conversation or two, then I don't see the problem. I mean, isn't what you do apart of your everyday life? Isn't the sum of what you do everyday a large component of who you are and how you identify?
Besides, in most cases, I've asked women what they do before they ask me. Part of it is simply a conversation piece to understand what type of field she works in, why she works in it and what made her go in that direction. To me, that helps me understand her personality better. Because if she's a teacher that tells me one thing versus if she's an engineer.
And to be honest, another part of it is me gauging where she falls on the socioeconomic scale. Not because I'm looking to rip her off or because I'm looking for a free ride. Moreso because I want to see if our lives and lifestyles are compatible.
The reality is, a banker and an IT worker probably work better than a banker and round-the-way haridresser. Is one better than the other? Not at all, but two different lifestyles and two different views on how to make money can cause issues for people who are entrenched in their own views.
