Guts is one of those characters where there's not a lot to him, but the things he does and says makes you just go "oh shyt"

Dude is pretty one dimensional though, but I still love the character.

I like Bleach/Naruto a little but I'd agree that those two don't really compare nor do they have any main characters that are as well versed like Guts. only more popular in the states because it panders to the mainstream audience and gets much more exposure
