So I fiinished all the episodes.
I thought it was interesting, even fascinating, but I didn't find it funny. There were amusing moments, but I didn't see the humor in the overall situation.
For example, Joe was amusing the first couple of episodes, but by episode three I was completely over his bullshyt. Joe is outlandish and flamboyant, but I find those attributes insufficient to mask his depravity: his animal abuse, his predatory sexuality, his narcissism, his greed. Carole is a kook (I reserve judgement on the question of her husband's death); Doc is a terrifying cult leader, but Joe is just repulsive, physically and psychologically. I also don't doubt he was guilty of exactly what they charged him with. Like Antle was raving over the implausibility of hiring of $3000 hitman, but Joe's stupidity, short-sightedness and hatred (and, of course, copious drug use) were sufficient to drown out whatever small shreds of rationality he had left.
Joe went down not because of any grand conspiracy; he wasn't set up by Jeff Lowe. I mean, both of their hands are equally dirty, but Jeff Lowe was simply clever enough to avoid indictment for the moment. A bunch of Joe's minions were complaining about why so-and-so wasn't arrested. The potential guilt of other parties does not exculpate Joe of his various crimes. It's not "fair", but fairness is irrelevant.
No, Joe was brought low by hubris. He thought he was clever, but he was only clever compared to the dunces that he employed. The Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park was a kingdom of the blind, and he was the its one-eyed king. But ultimately, he chose to both fight and partner with two people who were equally as devious, but much, much cleverer. Nemesis inevitably followed. To paraphrase Vince McMahon, Joe screwed Joe.
Back to his employees, there was no greater example of stupidity than the legless guy who was pestering the FBI about not going after Jeff Lowe. I was like: What the fukk are you doing? Never talk to the cops! If you were part of an organization whose head was sent to federal prison, your only communication with the government should be through an attorney.
In short, Joe Exotic represents the worst kind of garbage person this state (Kansas) pumps out; they litter the all levels of government in the state. People who think they're smart, but all bluster. People who hide their amorality through sheer force of personality. I can understand how such an attitude is attractive to people not accustomed with the type, but the king has no clothes, so to speak.
