Part of it is our failed education system and the reckless weaponization of social media to spread regressive ideologies. Also we're not a forward looking people anymore. We're afraid of the future and want to go backwards. China is the opposite. They embrace change and have a general positive attitude towards technological progress. They'll be the first ones to go completely solar. The first ones to embrace cellular agriculture. The first ones to ditch gas cars. Etc etc.
