First of all that is Makoko. It's a floating village on the coast of Lagos.

This is Lagos

re. subtext .

"Western" vs "Ethno-continental"
People need to look at the condition of Portugal and Greece these days.
"East Asian ..." .. are they all developed?

re. obvious question ..

Are we ever likely to see a non-Germanic nation with the same quality of living? it seems like the rest of Europe is suffering from ... no excuses ...

re. answer

"Botswana's impressive economic record compared to some of its neighbors has been built on a foundation of diamond mining, prudent fiscal policies, and a cautious foreign policy.[20] Botswana's economy is mostly dependent on diamond mining. Diamond mining contributes to 50% of the government revenue mainly through its 50:50 joint venture with De Beers in the Debswana Diamond Company.[21] It is rated as the least corrupt country in Africa in the Corruption Perceptions Index by international corruption watchdog Transparency International. It has the fourth highest gross national income per capita in purchasing power in Africa and above the world average.[22]"

Botswana might be up next. Or even Angola.

Or Equatorial Guinea if they get their "Gulf State" act together.

What gets me is, it would be one thing if it was constructive talk, comments on how to shape policy or something but it's not mostly. It's just outright bashing the continent like it touched them somewhere. I normally ignore it because by all means, stay out if you want. I'm actually quite fine with it but this is not the thread for their shyt.

They always have an opinion on things they know nothing about, like Africa :mjlol:

That's what gets me

No, not in our lifetime. For the same reason you won't see a fully developed Caribbean, Southern Asian, Central and most South American countries.

erm ...

and then you have places like Bermuda, BVI, Cayman Islands which are not on the list.

"In 2018, Bermuda had a GDP of $7.263bn, and the GDP per capita was $111,540, with a real growth rate of 1.7%"

not to mention that Guyana is the fastest growing economy in the world due to ongoing oil discoveries

For the same reason

what reason?

Often times a country on its way to becoming an economic power has a valuable resource to build on like oil for the Middle East…what valuable resources can these countries export to increase their presence? I know Africa is rich in diamonds and it’s a shame they couldn’t develop and corner that market before those cacs stole it…
Oil, gold, diamonds, cobalt, cocoa, platinum, uranium, natural gas, copper, iron, etc.. Africa is a gold mine.

-on another note what about the leadership. African nations tend to have heads of state who are military while western countries tend to put men in power who have law, business, and economic backgrounds.

Hell you don't even have a fully developed America.

Outside of major cities, all countries are basically shytholes.
naw
America is developed . It just doesn't update its infrastructure way out in the rural places. You go out in the bush in the 3rd world there is no running water or electricity even even in some of the urban areas.

I’m happy you said it before I did I was About to go off.

i think Rwanda is close. Kagame has done a lot to pull his Country up

OMFG! Rwanda is only Kigali filled with shiny buildings full of Tutsis congratulating themselves on being the Singapore of Central Africa. The truth is there's very little innovation anywhere and a world class PR team that papers over these realities while constantly pushing gimmicks aimed at Cacs like the airport robots and gorilla naming ceremonies.

In meaningful stats like HDI,Human Development Index,GDP per capita,HCI, Human Capital Index the truth emerges: they're behind most African nations; a landlocked 5th world nation doomed to perhaps perpetual insignificance.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Every country should look to Singapore. I remember I read the first thing Singapore did to be developed was develop their airport. The Singapore folks went straight to the roots to build themselves up
