While he made some interesting points during the first half of the interview, especially in regards to the signficance and importance of African American subculture, I had to turn that nonsense off around time he started bringing up LBJ and who has control over life...

Why? That was one of his deepest points, a lot of black people take what lbj said at face value and don't perceive the incredible arrogance and inherent white supremacy in the white liberalism his comment represented

It's why black people look to politics and white people to save them instead of looking internally for solutions

His basic point is that white people do not and will not determine the future of black people

True and while I do agree with that narrative, Thomas Sowell's nonchalant way of saying life is unfair, blacks need to just "deal with it" seems kind of counterproductive, especially when considering a large majority of African Americans are targeted and at a disadvantage. Especially seeing as the capitalist system in America has long paralleled the notion of trying to keep blacks as permanent members of underclassmen, despite numerous prior attempts from the black community trying to break this mold by working hard gaining jobs/crafts/skills, organizing, and promoting education.

Sowell takes a shallow view of culture where it's mostly the result of free, individual decisions, and also has no interest in sociological data except when he's talking about how far behind Black people are when it comes to achievement.

Thomas sowell doesn't give a shyt about the future of black people. He's the definition of a house negro. Read his columns. If you didn't know what he looked like, you'd think he was white.

Yeah it's very shallow logic. It's kind of hard, to sit back and feed into the long held narrative of blacks being lazy not willing to work; than try to later derive that as the primary reason as why the African American community has long been at a disadvantage and is presumably in the state it is currently in. Growing up during the the middle part of the 20th century Sowell should know better than to use quantum leaps in his logic in regards to blacks systematically being discriminated against throw jobs, "owning businesses", property, redlining, etc. Not to mention blacks had to endure the fear of lynching, which broke up many families and businesses. Attempts at organizing through groups such as MLK's nonviolent peaceful coalition and the Black Panthers militant brigade; still brought out the worse fears in the "general" American public, in regards to blacks organizing to the point where the government agencies sought to how to dismantle and undermine this agency.

man.....I'm going stop before I end writing an essay. I'm genuinely pissed at this dude now. This speech is a pure slap in the face to what my grandparents went through...

Then you don't agree with the narrative, lbj and white liberalism acknowledges the suffering of black people.......so what?

And the end of the day you can join up with white liberals that acknowledge black suffering or black people can simply deal with it, I prefer to just deal with it, because there is no outside force that can fix issues in the black community, the notion that there is is delusional

He doesn't say blacks are lazy, he says black people need to change our culture

None of what you are saying changes the fact that only black people can solve black problems

In the AA thread you made a post talking about your main solution to things is voting in a bunch of white liberals into the house, so basically you believe the white liberal will save black people, how are you not a house negro?

He does think Black people are lazy. His whole thesis is that the origin of the Black cultural problem was Black people adopting "redneck culture" from lazy white people in the post-emancipation period before the great migration. No mention of maladaptive behaviors in response to systematic disenfranchisement, or of any disenfranchisement at all. As a thesis, it's wholly lacking in evidence.

Lazy is a word you putting in his mouth, he never said black people are lazy

He did mention "maladaptive behaviors in response to systematic disenfranchisement" he says that notion is a leftist concept and that it's stupid, he attacks the concept

why would he use a standard or concept that he is attacking to prove his point?

He's not attacking it, though. He's actually creating a straw man and attacking that. Anyway, lazy is not a word I'm putting into his mouth. Have you read any of his books? He's pretty clear about what Black culture is, and laziness is one of its main components.
