Never really listened to her songs except for Shake it Off and that's mainly because of The Rock.

Nothing against her personally but what's her "thing" that makes people go nuts? Is it her voice, guitar mastery, dancing???

Like compared to Elvis, Bey, MJ, Beatles etc, it's hard to pin down exactly what makes her so popular outside of being a seemingly girl-power, facially attractive white woman with no brehs in her dating history and songs that don't sexualize her.

Majority of earth population prefers mediocrity. A safe zone. Sort of like a Windows/Mac setting where you can revert changes and come back to the last setting that worked fine for you.

I'm not asking Swift to start doing some retarded shock value things, that's just ridiculous, but majority of her fans like her because she's simply a generic safe sound artist. There's nothing groundbreaking about her, but she makes music that is good enough to them. These are mostly boring people where if you played them something more funky, with more style, they'd think you're weirdo, because boring people hate stepping out of their comfort zone.

There's a reason why boring artists such as her (or ed sheeran from few years ago) or whoever else sold a lot of records. Drake in that similar lane, just making generic simp music, you're not gonna hear some groundbreaking political statement music from him. He knows what generic people prefer.

Feel like Drake is generic but it's a choice for him. He'd switch up and do whatever it took to keep the paper rolling in. Generic works for him and being a light skint breh doesn't hurt. It kind of feeds into itself. A big, brolic dark skint breh would have a hard time rapping like Drake. R & B....sure but not rap. That image wouldn't sell.

Taylor? I think her on-stage persona is basically just what she is...which is why she's so damn successful. She's not that bad girl pretending to be cookie cutter (young Miley, Britney, early Whitney etc). She's literally just cookie cutter on her own. Record execs don't have to sanitize her or clean her up. Easiest lick ever for a big time artist.

Not sure there's a black equivalent in terms of success relative to raw/natural talent. Beyoncé gets haters but her actual singing abilities are top-shelf. The music/songs aren't as good which drags her down. If she had Quincy or Smokey writing her music, whole different ballgame.
