I do want to learn lofi.

Without speaking on anyone elses style.... I feel like I come down right in the middle between lofi, boom bap, and Daringer type shyt.

I want to get my finger on the pulse of lofi and the daringer shyt cause those are two poppin movements. Plus, lofi producers got some pretty solid percussion work. Their mixes are crazy too

Lofi is dope. I don't get the hate. It's just minimalist background music to chill to.

You can still apply lofi techniques without being completely in the lofi "genre."

Cause most lofi producers follow the exact same formula and I mean exact
jazz piano loop, some vocals from an anime, and the same kick and snare as everybody else
Sounds good but most of it is low effort

I don't judge it by the run of the mill beat makers. The guys who are great at it don't follow that formula.

It's crazy, you prob got more beatmakers nowadays than musicians like people who play guitar, piano and such...

I mean there's really nothing special about being a beatmaker anymore.
I think in the 90s they would say you got a special unique kinda hobby
but in the 00's that all changed.
It's all perception. Im in my mid 30's getting into all of this now having grown up since a teenager wanting to dive in.

It's not special as you said because anyone with a computer can download a bootleg copy of FL studios and call themselves a producer.

I went in the opposite direction and invested in hardware that I've always wanted. My goal is to be DAWless as much as humanly possible between my MPC Live, SP404, Op-1 and Arturia Minilab.

AND I said fukk it. Im just gonna start crate digging and finding my samples the traditional way.

I can't tell you how much fun I'm having learning how to use all of this equipment. This has been a special time in my life because I've been able to start doing something I've always wanted to do in earnest.

I started out the OG way to but eventually went with the DAW way cause it's just way easier and faster to use.

The 718
Lo-fi gets on my nerves. Weak ass off-beat Dilla ripoffs, only they made the wrong takeaways from Dilla and Madlib. Their shyts are off-beat but still got hella rhythm. That's how you know these dudes are mostly cacs and Asians because they just go for the off-beat part and forget the rhythm :pachaha:

Lo-Fi can be dope though but just like Trap, people are milking out the same concept which makes it boring quick.

all of this

and once you figure your that you can get whatever is your sound out of anything. ultimately the best thing to use is whatever gets your ideas down the fastest and as fun as possible.

mainy avoid that genre because it's gentrified boom bap. i can tell most of those dudes didn't look too far back into hip hop. they are just formulaic as fukk which defeats the whole point.

I was watching one dude demonstrate how he got all these dope samplers and what he made out of it... shyt was unbelievably sterile. you shouldn't make music in a vacuum.
