Man I recently signed up to socials, Instagram, YouTube etc under my producer tag to try and get my music out there. Not for buys or selling beats or anything.. Jus want people to hear my art as I was tired of making nice beats no one would listen to but me and few friends.

And I'm literally just in a sea full of fukking clones and robots... Everybody on IG is "dave lofi" "lofi chan" "*onthebeat" "producedbyx"

Just trap producers, drill producers, lofi producers... Whatever happened to just being a fukking hip hop producer and making all diff types of beats. Then I went onto reddit and chcekd the beatmaking forum there and it's just more of the same corny shyt by little nerd kids.

I am yet to see an IG page for a beatmaker who makes unique music that's not corny. shyts crazy to me... Everyone's pigeonholing themselves into one sub genre... These lofi dudes are just looping drums and samples, throwing anime on for visuals and thinking that's enuff to stand out against every other lofi nerd.

shyts so weird to me. Rant over lol.

As 35yrd and as someone getting back Into producing I see this a lot . Part of me knows it just a sign of the times and trap and lofi is just popular . Then there is a part of me that understand that trap sems like it's an easy sub genre to get into and make money . Which is why you have a few producers eating off of the "type beats" wave or what not . Lofi was what it was called in the 90s it was called boom-bap .

The bad thing about all this is it's not pushing the genre forward as whole . That's why a guys like madlib and jdilla are revered as much as they are because they can do any style of music and make it their own .

I do plan on doing something cause I'm get into as many producer avenues as possible . Like YouTube , IG, Distro kid etc . It's a unique way I want the world to see me as a producer as well as the musicianship that goes into hip hop . I got a few ideas but unlike these young nikkas the music has to be good which is forgotten. I come from the ear that if you sound like somebody else you were looked down upon clowned even...

Yeah man I ain't trynna sound like nobody else at all. And to me that's not hard, it just comes natural. These lofi dudes are just bitcrushing the shyt out of their beats and looping some chilled sample so naturally I ain't gonna do that.

I like to mix trap style subtlety into whatever I'm chopping but you can't call it trap. And yh I've found that none of these trap producers are doing it for the love, they can't be... Their beats are so generic but because people are willing to buy these 30 dollar leases they think they're killing it.

Imma keep doing what im doing and uppin my beats but no doubt it'll get drowned in a sea of shyt.. Its all for the love anyway so its all good.

It's crazy, you prob got more beatmakers nowadays than musicians like people who play guitar, piano and such...

I mean there's really nothing special about being a beatmaker anymore.
I think in the 90s they would say you got a special unique kinda hobby
but in the 00's that all changed.

It's it's definitely a difference between beat maker and producer most nikkas don't k own the difference . The line got blurry I believe when timbaland came in but he was a hybrid ....I would have to research it though ...:jbhmm:. The game changed when FL studio was introduced for sure ...

Yeah I hate the cookie cutter format of today. Find an instrumental, put a trap or lofi beat under it and done. No one creating anymore. Taking a record, a synth or instrument and make it your own.

I'll give the lofi crowd props and credit for creating their own scene away from the mainstream.

BTW, I'm an electronic music producer that makes mainly techno and house. That's what I like. I'm fashion myself from the 80s 90s generation of DJs and producers to be honest and always set to make something that stood out.

When I moved to NYC in 2012, that's when I discovered the techno and house scene there and I was absolutely fukking HOOKED! Going to the clubs every week atleast 3-4 times a week.
:dj2:going to raves and afterhours parties.:stylin:Dancing like Carlton on Fresh Prince after he took that speed!:mj:
Hanging out at Bossa Nova Civic Club and talking to people from Berlin to Paris to even Seoul Korea about house music. Met alot of old school heads and producers and DJs. I was spinning hard house and techno in the early 2000s and trance. At that point other than the chicago/detroit/jersey/nyc nikkas there weren't too many nikkas playing techno and house where I was at in Pittsburgh. Or IDM for that matter. So as a black dude playing parties in this predominantly white electronic music scene I stood out. I always repped my real name and Nigerian heritage with my music, but I fashion myself as well like artists like Bjork and Underworld and Chemical Brothers and Autechre and Aphex Twin. The music I make is electronic but its based the struggle between man and machine.

The tunnel is receptive man...people been supporting and digging my stuff on the coli and I appreciate it. I've been producing since 1997. I'm almost 25 years deep in the music production game and still going at it. I decided I'll retire from music in my 50s. I'm trying to establish myself as a legacy artist now.

I have to say I'm very impressed by the quality of productions I hear on this site, and so versatile too. As someone who is also very versatile both as a listener and a creator, I appreciate it. In real life and other areas of the net, I meet a lot of beatmakers very boxed into one style. At the moment over hear it's either Drill or Afroswing (basically bashment with an African twist :russ:).

I feel like if you don't do the things the OP mentioned then you don't get noticed nowadays. All these algorithms and shyt really make it hard to stand out.

I try to work with local artists but since I don't have a large following or typical beat page I find myself at a disadvantage even with them (and a lot of them nikkas ain't even that good). shyt makes you wanna give up sometimes :francis:

I love Lo-Fi but i do agree they all sound exactly the same. You wouldn't even hear who made what beat if you knew the producers-names.
