but programming it to 'know' we exist isn't saying much. it's just assigning a value to a variable. it's like saying my pocket calculator 'knows' pi. I don't think too many people would define that as "artificial intelligence"

Like i said if your mind is up there is no way i can convince you otherwise. What do you think an AI should be like. Should it process information the way we do? Should it be self aware? We have AI now just not the way people view it like most things.
