Another weak episode. Not a lot of development from anybody or anything, though it started to set things up unlike last week.

Real talk, I started finding this show kind of boring around the time Nina was in prison, and gave up around then. It was watchable enough, but individual episodes didn't feel like they were really building to anything and I wasn't getting as much out of the show as I did initially. Did I make a mistake?

There's a couple of main missions each season but they are just there to give Phil, Liz and Stan stuff to do, the main focus of this show has always been the characters but they've stripped down the spy games for more character development. If you are not into that kind of thing or want more action/thriller, then yeah, you made the right choice. If you feel attached to the characters (like me) then you are still gonna enjoy the show a fukk ton.

It pretty similar to Mad Men's last couple of season. When the advertisement part of the show took a big back seat to whatever directions the characters were going to end up in the finale.

Fell behind w/this show due to so many others airing right now. Watched 4 episodes and I'm caught up now :ehh:.

Henry turning out to be a math wizard :ohhh:

Phillip getting dumped and Liz clowning for him it :mjlol:. Nice guys can't catch a break :sadcam:, we saw how quickly she picked up the phone when he started talking about being married :francis:.

Not sure why Phil and Liz are still working them, since they have the wheat plant and sent it back to Russia with Gabriel. When Liz saw her asset was cheating on her :picard:, at least she learned Tai Chi from it.

Relations with Paige remain rocky, but them opening up to her more seems to be working somewhat.

Tuan for all his tough talk seems to be getting lonely. "You guys need to be here more" :sadcam:

Russian wife having an affair w/one of her students is another win for #GMB.

The show continues to have excellent acting, particularly facial acting. Due to their jobs, so much emotion is worn on their face and figuring out what they really mean or feel inside has me :jbhmm:a lot of the times.

This season has been a slow burn, I don't know if I can say it's lost a step, or lost it's direction, I think it's probably due to the fact it's the second to last season. The acting and personal hells of the characters are some of the best work on tv, it's a devastating show, that gets more and more wrenching as it goes on. The lies, the duplicity, the guilt, anguish, regret and remorse, just watching them zero in on people's weaknesses and flaws, then twisting the knife in further and further, sometimes with this person in their arms, and smiling at the them adoringly.

Who hasn't wondered if the person you are laying next to, or sitting across from his sincere? Who hasn't wondered if someone they had feelings for was lying, or would lie? Who hasn't manipulated someone, even innocently enough? If you know how to twist someone, if you wonder if someone is trying to "twist" you? The emotional toll that this takes is where the shows real heart is. A lifetime of lies, deceit, taking advantage of people has wrecked Phillip. You know that feeling when your emotionally raw, and you just want the truth, or someones feelings that you know are real? Phillip has lost that. Never had it maybe, and has to fake it everyday.

A few observations:

-I think Elizabeth is falling for her mark
-I don't know if it's a self esteem thing or a prove to Elizabeth/Gabriel I haven't lost it, when he tries to get that girl back

One thing I did notice this week - Paige watching TV and switching the channels every few seconds reminded me of The Ludovico Technique from 'Clockwork Orange' - it was like she's trying to brainwash herself into forgetting certain parts of her life, like her parents have :jbhmm:

I think this season is intentionally going for "What's the point of all of this?" with the focus on characters & emotions rather than forwarding the plot. We're supposed to find all of this tiring and tedious just like Phil does. A lot of different things have fallen through this season to aid in this belief of mine. Characters are unsure of the world around them, and themselves and their purpose but I do think something big happens in these last episode moving us directly towards the end/final season which I think will end up being the best season.

I blame Stan's whole plot. Its like they haven't looked for a spy in over a year

and I wanna see Phillip flirt with defection
