I don't think he became that until after Avon got locked up. Shamrock was Stringer's #2 (altho dude was really more like an admin asst) but you didn't see Slim assuming a higher position until later.

I wish the Avon/Stringer beef had more time to build into a real split in their empire. There was strong tension in that relationship but just as it was exploding, it fizzled out within a few episodes.

i agree, part of the mystique of joe, avon and marlo (especially marlo) is that we dont really know their back story

marlo had that perfect combo of fear + charisma to make it plausible that he rounded up a gang of young brehs and just started bullying people

he had vinson as a mentor too, so he had old head guidance and/or protection, presumably from way back

Presbo kinda turned into a good guy after that whole teaching storyline and him tryna take care of dook.
Marlo shoulda got murked and Avon shoulda came back into control, or at least have Stringer escape death and take over.

and they never, ever brought up Rawls' sexuality after that bar scene (which I thought woulda been a big storyline in terms of that character). I guess they had too much other shyt going on.
