I think for us accountants, we don't typically beat around the bush in interviews or even waste time with bullshyt.
So that I could get out of working in my previous job. I had an interview for Finance Manager at MacArthur Foundation in Chicago, Controller for Lewis University and a Controller position where I did accept here in Indiana. I was a controller in my previous role as well. I did not get the Finance Manager position but I did make it to the final round of interviews. There were four rounds. For the last round, I interviewed with the Vice President and the CFO. I did well but I realized that it was not going to go the way I wanted because in accounting, a lot of people place precedent on the size of the business that you've worked for previously because typically, it means that you have been exposed to more things. I handled the questions with ease but they kept coming around to that point.
At Lewis University, I was ultimately hired for the job but I declined. First interview was with who would have been my immediate supervisor, second interview was with who would have been my staff, third interview was with the CFO. Weird structure in that they were going to have CFO->Assistant CFO->Controller (me)
Last one, the one that I did accept, phone call with who is now my current supervisor and then an interview with my current supervisor (CFO) and another person in senior leadership. That was it. I have a staff of 8, I just showed up and they didn't know shyt about me
All were handled through Teams/Zoom.
I'm not trying to say this as uppity but I think for certain positions or getting to certain levels within a profession, they handle these things in a more delicate way. It's been a while since I've had someone make me truly hit the
or
during an interview.
