I mean he is true. The game does actively help smaller defenders now in the post up situations. Lowry, PJ and CP0 are relatively stout but they would get raped in earlier decades where you could punish them as much as they are allowed to hit you. That being said, Joel's footwork, esp when he's tired, needs to improve. It was really bad his first majority healthy season, and now it's like above avg. So he is working on it

He was creating a ton of open looks for dudes thru his gravitational pull but they don't have reliable shot creators or makers :francis:
I forgot what game it was recently, but the announcers were remarking how the player was given the ball in the post, he passed it back out, guy reposted, passed it back out, and they drained the shot. It might've been the philly game now that I think about it. But that didn't happen enough. That action was open almost every single time a wing stayed with Joel when he got a 1 on 1 in the middle post. They did a horrible job of moving with him in the post too. bad entry passes, bad support around him

some of those are due to not having really smart off ball shooters, but it's also coaching

Honestly, for a young breh who didn’t watch prime shaq, why did he never win a DPOY?

Only memories I have of Shaq are his last years in Phoenix, cavs, and Boston :flabbynsick:

Did this cat ever see Shaq play? Most any version except super washed Shaq would give Embiid vicious work. Laughed off court style.

Because there were better defenders...and only allowed for 2 C's. Dream, Deke, Zo, Admiral were all better defenders when Shaq actually played defense. By the time they were all gone, he stopped caring on the defensive end. I guess he figured he had no one to really guard anyway.

I hate NBA discussion culture. League officials made so many changes to soften up the game, yet idiot media, former players, and fans blame the PLAYERS for being soft, not league officials.

no one blames NFL players for league officials softening up the game with crappy qb and helpless receiver changes. Folks blame the league.

joel is spot on. I honestly think he holds back more than he wants to

What does this vs matchup he never posed have to do with his point?
You saw Shaq play in real time, just like I did. To infer that Shaq was dominant due to elbows is disrespectful. However, the game is quite different now. Regardless, Shaq would've found a way to be successful in this era of NBA, or any era.

I don't think he's stupid. I guess his words can be interpreted two different ways :manny:

He doesn't even have to change his game that much. Post, get the entry pass and face up. Or post, catch, passout, flash across, catch again then do his move.

Embiid failures may be the reason the big man game comes back

You have to think hes that stupid to make such an argument.

smh
I see how it could be interpreted as such...even though he's just implying "power." He should've just not said anything about Shaq and elbows though

He needs to get stronger and more refined in the post and the Sixers need to get him some scoring threats on the outside so he can have more room to operate.

Wish we could get him in LA. He’d fit with AD well.

He does need to get stronger. I like Marcus Smart. I like seeing bruhs from Texas make in the league because this isn't really basketball territory. But watching him handle Joel in the post in game one made me cringe. I don't give a damn how great a defender he is. He's 6'2, Joel is a foot taller. That's not how it's supposed to happen.
