This is my problem. On one hand we are told RBs are a dime of dozen and worth a bag of chips. On the other hand, they're worth high draft capitol. CMC got traded for a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round pick. I assume the Chargers want something similar for Ekeler. High draft resources for a great RB. So...if that's what a top ten RB is worth...what's the 20th best RB worth? And how come a top ten RB is worth the same MONEY as a far worse RB, but a top ten RB is worth far more draft picks?

THIS

THE NFL OWNERS STAY SCHEMING

It's crazy because an aggressive running attack was key for the Chiefs' Super Bowl run last season.

Dude played a man's game out there.

I think Jacobs would be incredible on the Jaguars.

This is why you don't give RB's top contracts. Below is the list of the Top 15 Rushers in the 2017 season. Notice how many of them still played let alone contributed 5 seasons later in 2022.

10 out of the 15 players on the list didn't play in 2022. Some of those players were 22 or 23 that year. How are you going to pay a Back a 5 year 70 Million deal when you can't guarantee he will be in the league in 5 years?

Would you be happy paying Todd Gurley, Leveon Bell, Kareem Hunt, or CJ Anderson big long term deals?

Outside of Marshawn, none of those guys were great backs.

The quality of the position imo was on the decline

If they want to be paid, they have to be combo players like Mccaffrey. Run out of the backfield and run an elite route tree is what they need to evolve to.
Saquan and Ekeler are elite pass-catching receivers.
The RBs already adapted to be “combo” players. GMs are still refusing to invest long term

The NFLPA is hands down the worst union in professional sports....and is run by absolute incompetents

They will never be able to get rid of the franchise tag and the players in the NFL dont have the discipline to not cave in to fight for a bigger cause.
Over 50% or more of them nikkas live paycheck to paycheck, so they can't afford to hold out on anything. They will budge every time and accept minimal concessions.

I think running backs would benefit from their initial contracts being capped at 3 years, unlike now where they're 5 years for a 1st Rd pick and 4 years for non 1st Rd picks

Also, it'd be good if they could not be tagged or tendered after the 3 years.

I think they have to attach a statistical benchmark to it in order to separate the standard RB from the top-tier ones.
