He won't be a Met next season. There's too many people who can play first and in the time he's had in the majors, he hasn't done much to show he can stick.
Wheeler did what deGrom wouldn't and doesn't; blamed the defense and to some extent Callaway for being in the shift. I personally like it. The booth called out the shift as well. If they were in normal defensive alignment, the run doesn't score from second and he's out of the inning.

There are 0 legit first basemen on the Mets right now. I like Alonso but he's not coming up this year.
The issue is that the Mets organization is completely dysfunctional. There was no reason for Smith not to be in there, at 1B everyday, since the moment Gonzalez was DFA'd. They are literally setting him up to fail by playing him in LF... he's 23 years old and they want him to be Paul Goldschmidt right off the bat.

Crazy turn of events for deGrom this afternoon. Foul tip leads to a passed ball which can't be reviewed. Gets squeezed on strikeout and that batter comes home when the inning should have ended. Microcosm of his year.
Nola and Scherzer are pitching lights out baseball. All three are under the microscope today. I don't think deGrom loses the Cy Young because of this game, but he certainly doesn't get any points.
