yeah it was cool, not as good IMO but it really delved into Griselda's life storyI know. You don't want to fukk with the Queen.....once u fukked up and u dead in a sec.

From what I understand the movie was originally intended to be the pilot. Showtime turned down the TV show and instead they used the actual pilot as a movie and they maybe added some scenes to make it more like a movie.
As a movie it's not very good.. it's just too incomplete IMO. As a TV show I think it had some potential.

i dont think its a matter of the triads or yakuza being more powerful/active, its just that a Sopranos type show isn't exactly run of the mill easy to duplicate type shyt. mafioso shyt is embedded in the american psyche. there is a long history of mafia stories and references to build upon, whether fiction or real life stories, we know about al capone, lucky luciano, john gotti, we've seen godfather, goodfellas, casino, donnie brasco. that creates a very interesting context because you see on the show different perspectives on the whole mafioso genre and the representation of italians in film and the media and the show plays on it. it was very self aware in that way.

if you do the show, it has to have its own style. trying to make a chinese sopranos or the wire is not going to work. you will really need a show creator that understands chinese corruption, and an audience willing to watch chinese people in the lead role. the wire suffered in terms of viewership and awards because of its primarily black cast. it's sad, but that is how america is.
