I think the purse was absolutely a horrible purchase for a young mother. But we're not talking about that.

*sigh*

So much for solidarity.

I'm for solidarity but I'm also for keeping it real. She could be married, but something tells me she's not.

*sigh* Ok, breh. :tu:

I mean, serious question. Why do you care so much about the intregrity of some employees and what they did at a major worldwide high end chain, over the lives and future of our African American culture? If we could shop at Barneys and never get harrassed, do we have no worries? Everything cool?

This is bs. I have shopped at many a high end store in my younger days and not gotten harrassed. So what. I should've been harrassed by someone with some sense, a friend and uncle or someone, because I was blowing money I did not have. And I, check that, WE are not in position to do so. Give a damn about a profiling in Barneys, that is 35th on the list of things we need to march over.

Lets start a 100 page thread or get Jesse Jackson to march over the fact like 80 percent of our kids are born out of wedlock. Lets march over that. How many of your friends, my friends, how many rappers and athletes talk about "Life was so hard, my dad wasnt there, I am doing this for my single mom" - thats not OK my friend. Let's fight and march over the liquor stores on every corner where I grew up - let's march over my old school not having books, but since I tested so well as a youth, they bussed me to a "white schoo" and that joint was like the White House school of the gifted or something...lets march over things that MATTER.

Yes, I am talking about a bunch of things that mean nothing to this case if you look surface deep, but think deeper for ONE second...if we are a team, then as a coach, or a player on a team, hold your team accountable before you go worrying about what the referees are doing...

:whoa: we still doing boycotting Florida?

Right...

My point is, why bother to make the assumption in the first place?

Because this is one of the contributing factors to being profiled.

Profiling is based off of negative stereotypes, which lead to unjust detaining or questioning.

Profiling is also a technique used to pinpoint criminals and potential wrong doers.

NEGATIVE stereotypes are horrible, but what happens when they become to be accurate?

In the 60s and before, they said blacks were savage monkeys. They were wrong, and we proved them to be extremely wrong with scientist, athletes, politicians and other gret thinkers.

Today, a racist would say, Kayla is likely a broke hood chick with 2 kids and no baby daddy.

What does it say about ourselves when they are RIGHT?

 Did you.. mean to quote me breh? I'm not sure... wtf you're talking about. I don't give a shyt about Barneys I didn't say anything about Barneys, just that I think it's lame that we, as blacks, judge one another prematurely when we shouldn't be doing that. That's what white people are here for. I think we should give each other the benefit of the doubt till proven otherwise. Assuming this chick is a single mother may be a "safe bet"... what I'm saying is why bet in the first place? Why do we feel the need to look at her situation and say, "Yea... she's a scallywag!" when we can just as easily and righteously NOT make a judgement about her character or past.

So lets leave the profiling to them. Let's let THEM do the assuming and be wrong (or right, who knows in this case). The point is, assumptions are what started this, and there's enough white people assuming the worst about us that I think that maybe we should be able to count on each other NOT to do it as well. Call me crazy.

I think the days of "not-judging" and this fake "we are always right" mentality is what got us into this mess we are in today.

How can a Trayvon get justice when we fake outrage for anyone and anybody. She ain't deserving of it. It's time we don't give each other the benefit of the doubt and hold each other to higher standards of excellence.

I never said we're always right. C'mon. All I'm saying is thinking about our people the way white people think about our people isn't going to do us any good.

Everyone profiles, but I'm not detaining people because of it. I keep my thoughts mostly to myself and keep it moving. Btw, I think any woman who's that young and pregnant is most likely a single mother.

I hear ya. Everyone has prejudices. When I see a fat person, I automatically assume they smell and suck at life. I'm just saying that if I was fat, it would be weird for me to do that.

Be real. Black men don't marry the mother of their children especially at the age of 21 :childplease: Blacks have the lowest marriage rates of any race and this coming from me will probably trigger anger but this forum is the perfect example of anti-marriage amongst black men.
