Okay, but what separates it then from the other drugs people abuse--regular powder cocaine, syrup, meth, pills, heroin etc--and warrants extra attention

frankly I think the hysteria about crack (creating the disproportionate sentencing etc) perversely caused even more problems

You already know why it should get extra attention... it affects our community more. And it is one of the main things supporting the private Prison industry..

Plus it's cheap. Plus people have smartened up about it. A top dealer in the 85's was more hands on than a top dealer in 2005. so now there are so called hood legends, but you have to be from that exact hood to hear about them ... so now because you see 40 Crack dealers from ur side of town living w their moms, it's not as glamorous for the kids, u think there are no young dudes making real money.

And yes the sentencing laws increased the issue, because it takes so many men out of a community.. Single moms created n all that.. But more so increased the number of felons and people who basically feel they need to be criminals for the remainder of their life after getting locked up at the age of 18…. Furthering the depression of already depressed communities.

I dunno breh.. the private prison industry is happy to put you in for violating any drug law including marijuana

we can go back and forth on some of the more semantic questions here but I think in terms of absolute number of addicts it's no question that the epidemic peaked in late 80s early 90s

Especially prescription drugs.

prescription drugs are more of a problem for kids...

and the prescription drug use is getting worse because you can get it from anywhere.. I've had a chick call in a prescription for me pretending she was a doctor’s office. I really needed the pills and I'm not on drugs, but it made me realize how easy they are to get.

I never really had a problem w prescription drug abuse. I guess it’s because I figured it didn’t affect my people as much… but to my surprise there are lil black kids following right along.

i agree that the number of addicts has went down... y tho?
as far as addicts, do you think the decline has to do with abortions? I've heard that theory.

Nah man, prescription drugs are more of a problem for adults. Because they think it's ok. Grown folks poppin vikes and valiums like skittles because Dr. Dontgiveafukk gave them unlimited refills. Same thing with oxy and sizzurp, all that lean shyt.

yeah but they say that usage from age 12-17 is steady but has descrease among adults...

so that is what leads me to think that it's a problem for all, but especially kids.

Man just be quiet and stop embarrassing yourself. The crack epidemic fizzled down in the early 90's because the word was out on it. People in the 80's didn't realize what a demonic drug crack was when they first started experimenting with it. After a generation of zombies who would sell their own kids for a fix was created, younger heads realized that it wasn't a drug to try. Better to just sell it or leave it alone altogether. Young people stopped trying it, that's why it declined. That's why the vast majority of addicts that are still alive and not in jail today are over 40.

well it's included in "Heroin or cocaine and their derivatives"

but yeah, it's obvious marijuana arrests are dominant now

For real. I've never seen a young crackhead in my entire life :skip:

people looking like zombies and it being unappealing to kids, isn't the reason for the decline. I think the loss of appeal is only part of the reason
