dapped and repped brehI don't follow Tariq. But I'll speak from the perspective of a Puerto Rican who grew up in NYC during the 80s and 90s. Puerto Ricans (nor did any other Latino) create nor help to create hiphop. The most Puerto Ricans can claim is being the first non-FBA eyewitnesses of Hiphop as it was being created.
If you were able to go back in time and remove all Puerto Ricans, Hiphop would have still been created - just like Jazz, blues, rock & roll, was created without any Puerto Rican help.
It's human nature for people to want to say they played a part in the creation of something monumental. However, Hiphop just like all great American music is a Black American creation. No offense to anyone on this board who is not FBA.
