Thomas Jefferson was an actual rapist. Same with a lot of other presidents and officials in US History. Yet, they’re trying to denigrate a legendary black American for “laughing” at a rape. It even sounds stupid when you say it out loud.

It’s shameless propaganda, the same thing they’ve done throughout history to any black person who wasn’t a Tom or a c00n. Ignore it or deflect to the actual murderers, rapists, and criminals whose portraits currently occupy US currency and who have statues all over the country.

A few questions

How does the Bevel story, where he was convicted for acts that occurred in the 1990s, relate to the topic about Martin Luther King?
And more importantly, how does incest relate to the bigger picture you were talking about, adults in close quarters in Civil Rights era...having sex with other adults.

I'm not one to bury my head in the sand about uncomfortable topics, but I don't get it.

I mentioned Dr. Abernathy throwing MLK under the bus in his book earlier in this thread. Do you know if he ever spoke about the allegations (against HIMSELF) that you wrote in your post about the underage girl? I never read his book, just knew about the controversy.
Well it relates to Dr. King, because it shows our supposed "Civil Rights heroes" are normal human beings with flaws. And how some of them are deeply flawed. Seeing how James Bevel is the individual who recommended that they use Children in the Birmingham campaign, a decision that ultimately saved the entire campaign from ruin it just demonstrates how complex history is. Is James Bevel a hero? One could make the argument that without James Bevel the entire Civil Rights movement ends with a failed campaign in Birmingham. In the days before the decision was made, major newspapers called the campaign a failure and for Dr. King to end the movement. Or is he something else?

Now, is James Bevel actions in the 1990s directly related to Dr. King? No. Did I say they were? No. But the fact that he worked so closely with Dr. King and went on to commit those heinous acts - and let's be honest, he didn't just start doing weird sexual shyt when he was 50 - is relevant to gain context about the type of people that led the movement.

With that being said, I'm not really sure what you want me to say. If you don't think it's relevant, that's not my problem.

*Edit

I read about the allegations against Abernathy in this book,

I haven't read Abernathy's book. But I wouldn't be surprised if he ignored it. Personal memoirs are usually not very reliable when it comes to understanding the full human being. People write them to portray themselves in the best light. Also included in the book was that during Ralph's trial, the now grown Woman testified that Rev. Abernathy liked unnatural sexual acts (head lol).

That was centuries ago, a distant period in which certain norms we now take for granted didn't exist, when men treated women differently and it was understood that said treatment was common and accepted. MLK should have known better and it's gross that you're attempting to excuse what he's being accused of. :troll:
