Dude has been trash since he came back, pretty much all TDs and passing yards during our defensive slump were on him. Single handedly gave NO about 28 pts, got ate up in the second half against ATL, got bullied by Seattle all game. He needed to be benched, I've been saying that since his second game back. Not only was he blowing coverage, he also flat out refused to tackle ANYBODY. If not for him being benched, I guarantee we would have lost.
I think the problem was that the whole current culture is built on 'next man up', but that all falls apart if it doesn't seem like you at least will get a chance to get your starting job back if you go down and someone else steps up; it'd have the vets either trying to play through injuries they should rest, or have teammates not supporting each other like they should. They kinda have to give the original starters all the chances in the world, to not blow the whole team's mentality up.
That being said, there have been a bunch of situations throughout the season where the 'next man up' is not only serviceable as a replacement, but sometimes better (Warner leading the LB unit after Kwon went down, Brunskill for Staley, Moseley for Witherspoon) and that shyt is great to know for the next season, but man it can lead to people being put back in the line-up and having it not work like it should.
Makes me wonder... like, I know Dee Ford is wanted back and everything, but the worst possible time he could come back would be his first game back being against BAL or another run-heavy team like that. He could eat against Rodgers but man... if the team can run that could be rough. And I'm concerned about the Kwon thing just because of the reality of units cohesiveness.
That being said, I'm almost ok with this. If Ahkello tries to get everything he can from Sherman over the off-season, at least we know that Moseley is serviceable both as a backup in the case of injury, or as the outside replacement when Sherman retires.
(Damn man... what happens to Trent Taylor next year? I mean, perfect world says Deebo starts in slot and can do all that motion Kyle loves to move him backfield/out wide/etc before the play. Sanders is hopefully back next season on the outside... You gotta hope to get someone else for the outside who can stretch the field with speed... what do you do with Trent? Bourne has shown he deserves to be at worst, WR4... are Pettis and Taylor both gone by next year? Strange that, counting Goodwin, the presumed WR1-3 during training camp probably won't even be factors by next training camp. That WR turnover has been crazy)
