Representation is cool. Ownership is better. The last Fast and Furious movie was directed by a black man, F Gary Gray, and it grossed over 1.2 billion at the box office. 12th highest grossing movie of all time. But is that a collective win for black people when we have no ownership over the franchise?
For so many years the narrative is "bu bu bu bu but they dont make these movies for us, there are never these opportunities for people of color" now that there is I aint saying niccas need to cowtow and "kiss massa feet and jiv jive turkey on the boogaloo..."
But I am saying cats need to chill, not over think this and just be happy for those in color who worked hard on this and are now out here about to showcase their hardwork.
We never know the doors this is about to open for a few of the people of color that were apart of this project from the actors and they guys behind the camera.
This movie gets as successful as we hope it to be, this is a great resume piece for them. I dont wanna dismiss their hard work and shift the conversation over to "yea but the white people"
