There is not a single rapper who fell off harder than Nas in the history of hiphop (Sage Francis)

Purists hold Nas to this weird standard. They wanted him to just be OC or someone releasing albums that don't reach the charts, so they can point to it and say "that's real hip hop." fukk that shyt.

I get why purists wouldn't fukk with most of IWW but lyrically you can't say Nas fell off there.

When I think of falling off I think of someone forgetting how to rap, their flow degrading significantly, lyrics becoming trash etc. Like...Eminem. There was a point where I felt Raekwon and Prodigy fell off hard. P's flow was very slow and prodding during parts of his later years. But both didn't fall off more than Eminem.

Problem with what your saying is,Nas was placed on a pedestal due to his lyricism more than his artistry. So when you have guys in here saying It Was Written is the apex of lyricism,it should be safe to say none of his following projects came close to being the "apex of lyricism". Which means you should agree with Sage Francis.
@bolded

The irony of you saying this when Jay's artistry aint exactly that great and is more put on the pedestal for lyricism

Jay's artistry is not that good compared to those guys, his storytelling, concepts etc are not that creative, good, and sometimes his material is redundant

only thing Jay does better as a artist you can argue is production, beside that Nas is better

Its usually the CaC backpack rap artists that say shyt like this. You know those Vinnie Paz/Michael Rappaport/Unkut reading types who get reeal comfortable thinking they have an authoratative voice on black and Hip Hop culture

I get some people think because he never made another Illmatic he fell off but the rest of his discography was decent enough that it never made the drop off that bad even with the complaints people had. When you consider most people from that era or anyone who's been 20 years in the game dont last that long, he had a steady elite career

Plus if you look at Sage's responses its obvious hes drunk and trolling and he seems like some weirdo white dude who moans about bipolarism and depression but gets off trashing others. A sad individual indeed.

Y'all gotta stop paying attention to dudes who slander if you still like the artist they dissing. End of the day, he could probably end up getting signed to Mass Appeal with his aesthetic so its moot:mjlol:

Sage Francis's audience has always thought like this and it makes sense that he himself feels the same way. These cac rappers and their fans are lowkey racists. I remember bumping into a few Sage Francis fans back in the day and they would always say the same ol dumb shyt: "I'm a huge hip hop fan. I grew up on Nas, Wu but they fell off and now [insert Def Jux, Rhymesayers] rapper is way better."

nikkas kill me with that shyt

it was written was lyrically sharper than illmatic

its just the beats were glossy and not made by the mt rushmore of nyc producers....and that made purists mad

how you fall off when his shyt is fukkin razor sharp till this day

no it wasn't. The rhymes were better on Illmatic. IWW was when you started seeing Ducktales Nas. Rhyming about lame mafioso shyt and saying shyt that sounds deep but doesn't make any sense.

"Blood money in a pimp's cum." OK....:what:

I still remember when this geek ass loser dropped that Wordplay cut and all the backpack nikkas and whiteboys went crazy....one of the worst songs in the history of recorded music.

alot of people dont know or remember this but the day Raekwons man slapped the shyt out of Buddens, some wu nikkas also beat the fukk out of Sage Francis cause they caught him recording a convo with Meth and Joe

Really? :lolbron: I had no idea. NO ONE reported this at the time.

The purveyor of pretentious off beat cafe poetry.

Da fukk is this shyt :russ:

This trash :laff:

this is an old backpacker argument. Nas was 'speaking in real words' on Illmatic, but dumbed his shyt down after that. I think there's some truth to it

but Nas still around making dope music. being hung up on this old shyt just makes dude sound butthurt
