No more sweat-drenched survivors trudging through forests! The Walking Dead‘s companion project is taking the zombie apocalypse out of Georgia. Sources confirm TV Line‘s report that the as-yet-untitled pilot is set in Los Angeles.

The scenery shift to the West Coast adds some intriguing setting possibilities: Beaches and the ocean, Hollywood, iconic landmarks, walker celebrities (though the cable show could likely never top Bill Murray in Zombieland), a nearby desert, and a larger metropolis to play with than the original hit’s occasional dips into Atlanta.

Just because the setting is Los Angeles doesn’t guarantee it will be shot there. AMC, which had no comment, is still casting the pilot written by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. So far Cliff Curtis (Sunshine), Frank Dillane (who played Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) have signed on.

I'll give it a shot but I don't think a spinoff is necessary. TWD drags on sometimes enough as it is. Hopefully the new show can hold a different pace while keeping the same vibe so that it does truly feel like the same universe. They also need to not do similar storylines but I'm not sure what else they could do that TWD hasn't been covering.

I feel like this could be the shark jumping point and beginning of the end for TWD. :manny:

The Walking Dead” companion series has landed a two-season order at AMC, the cabler announced Monday.

The spinoff, which will be set in Los Angeles and will feature new characters and storylines, will debut this summer.

The first season has been given a six-episode order. The second season is slated for 2016.

Cliff Curtis, Kim dikkens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey will star in the series, which is exec produced by “TWD” team Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert. Dave Erickson, who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman, will also exec produce and serve as showrunner. AMC Studios will produce.

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “From the beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did turn. Through this new series, we’re going to find out.”

Kirkman commented, “I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to ‘The Walking Dead.'”

AMC Global, the international AMC-branded television network, also announced Monday that it has acquired international television rights to the series and plans to air each episode within 24 hours of its U.S. premiere.

my hope is that because they wont have to go by the comics (for the most part) that it shouldnt drag on as much as TWD can at times....

The fukk is the point of this :dahell:

Same point of "better call Saul" to capitalize off the success of one show

I personally like the idea of a different crew in a different part of the country, that's how I thought the OG walking dead and true blood were going to be like

It should be that guy and his crew from Training Day. I'd tune in every week to watch them push zombies shyt in.

This is a much better idea...fukk is the point of having a parallel show of another set of "good" characters. They should actually be original and make it a crew of gully Shane or Governor like dudes who do whatever it takes to survive. Thats a show Id watch :ehh:

Vince and co were thinking about this before the show was even really successful though.
Anyways in this show I'd much rather prefer just a random group of people who link up during the chaos of the initial outbreak rather than a family drama.

It would be piff if they did it like True Detective and American Horror Story and had a new story each season, or they could hold that idea for a third walking dead spinoff :noah:
