You prolly never listened to Long Live the Kane....

so you're telling me I made this thread without hearing the most celebrated hip hop album from one of the most celebrated rappers ever?

:martin:

Cmon son.

not trying to diss, but alot of yall cant get with '80s music because its too social.
and then theres others that are social but lack that true feel of hip-hop.

i always say, in order to really GET something, you have to go back to the basics, start from scratch & work your way up. hip-hop is the only genre or art where the majority refuse to do this. thats why we're at where we're at.........NOWHERE. and most of the stuff thats "poppin" today, is less advanced than chit that was going on 40 years ago in the '70s, so its silly to act like youre above the '80s.

as for the '90s praise. the '90s was deeper with talent & variety, but the cream of the crop when it comes to legendary songs & albums - alot of that comes from the '80s. plus alot of '90s rappers were lacking in vital categories. there were more complete package rappers in the '80s. overall, both decades are equals in my book.

Let's not get carried away here. This thread is about one thing only: 80s rap albums. It's not saying that 80s rappers suck or none of that.

obviously you ain't never listen to Chill Rob G's joint b.

Im always a little suprised at how lyrically dope some of the 80s shyt is but I do have a problem finishing whole projects mainly because the beats and flows are so dated. I think the only one Ive been able to finish was Straight Outta Compton. Cube had me on some :leon:shyt with some of them verses. Some of that shyt coulda dropped a decade later and knocked.

I need to give some of them joints a fair shot tho. Alot of revered shyt I havent fukked with.

I never liked this album. "Dont Believe The Hype" is good, and in general, there's a lot of interesting things happening all over the album (from rhymes to sampling). But the whole shyt is too discordant and dated for me.

Bumrush the Show is better to me. I'll take "Public Enemy No 1" over ANY song on It Takes A Nation

Point taken and duly noted. Front to back listenability isn't necessarily the mark of greatness or quality tho.

I mean, you could listen to Portishead front to back and also fall asleep on the shyt. :russell:

All of the trap music out now is very listenable, due to the sameness of the beats and adlibs :russell:

i dont agree with OP about the 80’s albums, but the 90’s is clearly the pinnacle of rap music ever created. early to mid 90’s in particular. was just running through some old shyt, from black sheep, naughty by nature, positive k, i mean, these dudes music bodies anything out today from the south or even people held in high regard like kanye. music was just more fun, intense, less pretentious etc. and you can see why hip hop eventually superseded rock music as the music for teenagers to relate to. granted that was the era of my youth so im probably biased. but no rap in the past 15 years have moved me beyond it ust being a good song, doesnt speak to me like the early 90’s. i probably aged out this shyt tbh.

Bro, the sad fact is 10-20 years from now, mine and YOUR favorite albums will be dismissed too.

most of my all-time favorite rap albums are already 10-20 years old. if they haven't been dismissed now, I don't see them being dismissed in 20 more years. Especially given the state of the rap game.

That's exactly what I am saying. You wouldn't have made this thread otherwise...
