:wow:

I'm in NY so I don't have one anymore I dont think since that one bank we spoke about in either here or in another thread that was iN NYC sold out because of bankruptcy and they could not hold out and have dignity :beli:

Anyway your story of One United Bank got me inspired now...im gonna apply for the online banking.

I bet if you were to ask them for a personal loan you probably have an easier time getting than you would from the selfish banks like Citibank right? :lupe:

I would advise it bruh. Of course every experience is different, but it just had a feeling of love and wanting to do right by each other that I had never experienced going to a bank. So I'm sure it's the same way with the loans. When I bought my car my credit was pretty good but I had to go through so much bullshyt to get a loan. I feel like with this black owned bank they'd work their ass of to get me the loan I need without the BS.

My wife made a good point while we were there. Black group economics is the goal, but even the little things mean a lot. Like we had sistas in the bank wearing locs, braids and big earrings and still looking professional. At a typical job she'd probably feel eyes on her or have co-workers asking dumb question. There's something to be said about doing business with each other so that we can just breathe and be ourselves without being "the black guy" at the job. You can't put a price tag on stuff like that.

One United Bank - Compton, CA

These reviews are scaring me :lupe:

And the one lady in the review who put "I was so happy to discover a Black owned bank until..." blah blah blah....is a clown. Our people just dont think things through.

Now in terms of her overall review I dont criticize anything else she said if you had a bad experience then you had a bad experience...but why the hell was it necessary for her to bring up it being a Black owned bank in an unecssary way...just say you would not recommend the bank for the experience.

I know she did not go on that whole "this is why Black folks dont have businesses' bullshyt our parents love to say...but it wasn't much different what she said... just gets me so frustrated. basically dry snitched on her and her friend towards the end and through her race under the bus. Just give the bad review of the company and say you wont recommend it and leave it at that...has to bring in some internal fighting for no reason.

The reviews scared me also, and I already had a bad experience going the online route due to snags in the application, but that's why I'm so glad I went and tried for myself. I went to one of the Crenshaw branches and shyt was incredibly professional and friendly at the same time. Zero complaints and the teller that set up my account was so sweet and helpful that I left wanting to do something nice for her lol.

I'm with you on the throwing the race under the bus in the reviews thing. I think when we go in knowing it's black owned, we put our defenses up and magnify the bad things that could happen anywhere, just so we can go "See, that's why we can't have anything." My rationale for giving One United a try is that I'd just throw about 200 bucks in there and play it by ear. I got other accounts, so if they turn out to be the shyttiest bank in the world, at least I wasn't that invested. But after the good experience I had, I can see banking with them long-term for sure.

Couple more questions...

1. Not that I am thinking in a negative way but just for security...in cases where news comes out that a bank company is gonna close. how do you handle situations like having a savings account? Like i plan to open one for my little sister with this company. Would you literally have to take out all the money in a situation where a bank is gonna close?

2. As of now I still have not had a credit card only debit cards and prepaid cards. However as we all know you can get bad credit without having a credit card. And I have that thanks to shyt like when i randomly stopped paying my smartphone bill last year because it was getting to be too much and not paying the owed money for certain online offers/products. Do you think I should get one even though I am not in a career yet with the means to cover my debt?

I always felt it was silly to get a credit card if its gonna immediately gonna show up as bad history(dont they count your debt from before even if its your first card

3. can i really set up my entire account online? cause i live in NY and it aint out here

4. what are your thoughts on the rising cost of living and minimum wage being stagnant? dont you think corporations are getting greedy and CLICK MY link below in my signature and sign up for a free account. No credit card is needed all you need is an email for verification.

I think when banks close, some other bank takes over the accounts, so you don't have to take any money out unless you wanna move to another bank.

I'm still learning like all the rest of us, but I'll answer to the best of my knowledge.

1) Like breh above me said, your money will simply be covered under the banner of the bank that takes it over. I have never seen a bank just flat out close -- they always get bought out. I'm a Wells Fargo customer only because I opened an account at a bank called Wachovia and right after, they got bought out.

2) If you can get a credit card that doesn't rape you on interest, I'd do it. One great option you have is a secured credit card, which One United offers in the form of their "Unity Visa" card. These types of cards are typically catered toward people with new credit or trying to rebuild their credit. The reason for this is that you are basically guaranteed approval, because you put the money up for your credit. You pay a deposit that will act as your credit limit. For instance, if you want a $1,000 credit limit, you give them a $1,000 deposit with your application and you are good to go. This card can be used to build up credit and improve your score.

Even if you are worried about debt and stuff, a great way to build credit is to use your card for things that you know you already have the money for. For instance, you can get a card and pay your bills with it, and then pay off the balance before the month is out. This way, credit bureaus see that you are using credit and being trustworthy in paying it back.

3) Yeah, you can set it up online. To my knowledge, they're going to ask for a copy of your driver's license, so you should go ahead and scan that and have it good to go.

4) I think corporations are getting greedy, but is also the best time ever for us to do things our own way, because giants are falling. More artists are going independent in music because they're tired of bad record deals, Uber is killing the taxi industry in a lot of major cities, while letting people become entrepreneurs, streaming services like NetFlix changed the game with original content. Basically, corporations are crazy greedy, so that opens the door for us to become entrepreneurs and do things in new ways while corporations are busy fukking people over and clinging to the old ways.

I am my own boss and while it's a struggle and I want to grow a lot more, it's enough for me to control my hours of life without having to answer to people. It's also given me the confidence to grow and expand on any other ventures I create and dream with my mind. I freelance write, but the possibilities are endless when it comes to doing business.

My thought process is that I'll never let another man tell me I can't eat. What that means is that despite minimum wage, Republicans and Democrats, the stock market and everything else, God gave me a brain, balls and a heart so I can always find a way to use them to provide for myself despite what the world is in the mood to GIVE me. If we were in the jungle, we'd either hunt and eat or die. We can never let leaning on what's happening in the job market or anything else cripple us from taking it upon ourselves to provide for these natural needs and instincts.

Easier said than done, I know, but in 2015 with the internet and cell phones, no one can stop you or me from getting ours despite whatever the fukk politicians and corporations are talking about.

^That was beautiful :wow:

Speaking of black businesses. Help support the bookstore Sankofa @2Quik4UHoes works for. there is also an online website.

www.sankofa.com/

no reason why we cannot make things like this become bigger than Amazon. We just need to support each other more.

Also SheaMoisture and all of its products are great(IMO). I'm using the African Body Soap Body Lotion right now and i love it because just like the regular bath soap it does its job without your skin itching and all the irritations.

didnt mean to get this off topic from Black banks but lets all be serious, we do not support most products as a whole never less Black banks so we might as well mention everything

I'll even go ahead and up this.

I work close with the VP of Industrial Bank in Washington, DC. They really do have a solid team over there.
