Lately have been hurting myself mentally as to why things always go bad for me (searching for reasons & overthinking). I don’t believe a therapist or a psychologist from where I am at, can help me find my answers since im psychologically savvy as well (friends & fam turn to me for advice).

So after long thinking about finding the answers I seek, I decided today that I will purchase a bible. Curious to see and hope I will find my answers and calming presence to life in there.

Love fam.

Don't make the same mistake I made and think a therapist can't help.

If you could solve issues with just logic, we wouldn't be suffering on the inside.

Hopefully you find your answers soon.

As a Black therapist I have to say I love this thread. The rate of suicide for our people is now increasing higher than any other group.

Therapy is a space where you can explore who you were, are, and want/need to be in a safe and non judgmental space. Having a space where someone’s hub is to listen and help us is so rare.

Therapy is not some fly by night snake sorcery. It is a rigorously researched science that utilizes evidence in direct real-life applications. I have a PhD in Psychology and the amount of focus on clinical efficacy was astounding.

Look up the studies comparing psychological instruments to medical instruments. Psych instruments were as good or better.

It may not be easy but by asking questions and being willing to keep trying, a lot of good can come.

For instance, exercise has been shown to be almost as effective as medication for elevating mood- so I tell all of my clients that the sweet spot for exercising is 3-5 days a week, for 45 minutes. Help the client develop skills that they can learn, practice, and use without you. Help them build their social supports and connections- since research shows social isolation and being alone can kill you. This notion that we can tough it out by ourself is false.
