For instance, exercise has been shown to be almost as effective as medication for elevating mood- so I tell all of my clients that the sweet spot for exercising is 3-5 days a week, for 45 minutes. Help the client develop skills that they can learn, practice, and use without you. Help them build their social supports and connections- since research shows social isolation and being alone can kill you. This notion that we can tough it out by ourself is false.
