I disagree. There is a romanticism regarding 1950s America. When people say MAGA they’re really saying “take me back to the 50s”. This shows that under that cute clean cut aesthetic there were monsters running around. Yeah this is difficult to watch because this likely happened all around America. I don’t think it’s just purely exploitative torture porn. Also how do you folks watch 6+ hours of a show you supposedly don’t like? (Not talking about you but others in this thread). Maybe the point of a horror show is to be horrified.
Because a lot of shows can take multiple episodes (or their whole first season if multiple seasons) to build up characters or immerse you. Lots of shows their first season is the worst. Nothing wrong with giving something a chance. But this shyt isn’t delivering and it consistently seems to be an issue with Lena Waithe storytelling

edit: just saw the opening 10 or so mins of episode 5...:hubie: gotta agree with the other posters here, shyt is :camby:

I watched the whole thing because I wanted to see what the creator's point was.
It's still a panorama out there after all...I don't leave my house for much but grocery shopping and to get coffee in the morning so I've watched a ton of shyt that ends up being trash in the last year.

Secondly, it is 2021 and everyone who isn't a racist piece of shyt knows that the 1950s was a horrible time for black folks and anyone who needed to have that illusion broken for them isn't the target audience of this show anyway.

Thirdly...horror movies are supposed to do more than horrify. They are supposed to be entertaining at their base level. Also there is a difference between horror movie scares and being shown extended scenes of a black woman being gang raped while her newborn child is murdered, or a black couple being tortured before being hanged and set on fire or any of the other countless examples of violence let loose upon the black characters in this show that had nothing to do with the supernatural aspects.

There is horror and then there is exploitation. This show trafficked in exploitation a bit too much for my taste.

Its really sad because the cinematography is really dope ...some of these shots
like the wide pan of the school bus are beautifully dreadful and the plot itself had enough meat on the bone to really explore some interesting angles but got damn did they ever go for the lowest common denominator here with their execution... The main black characters come off as mostly incompetent incoherent and ineffective in almost every instance and even the unhinged whites seem overall dull in their malcontent ...The white woman neighbor comes off as far too unstable to serve as a believable psychologically tactical antagonist which is the lane that role would have been most effective...The lack of character depth and cunningness makes most of the brutality in the series largely as gratuitous as a cheap 80s slasher film ...but unlike a Friday the 13th entry this is framed as supposedly offering more substance than it actually does ... like I said ... what a sad blown opportunity :francis:
I do agree that it is a visually well done show. That is one of the biggest selling points about it.

Do y’all always have to have temper tantrums and write think pieces like a group of Twitter bytches every time you are not into something? Just turn it off or do not watch if you are really that “traumatized and tired” as normal people do. The shyt does not require all of that. It is really intriguing because Kevin Samuels speaks about guys becoming so feminized not being because of homosexuality, as people on here love to say, but because of being raised by women and how you see that feminization online with how bytchy/temperamental/irrationally emotional guys act. All of these temper tantrums about easily avoidable shyt prove it. Stop acting like a group of bytches already

She’s the biggest reason The Chi fell off.

Just finished it and the ending was really flat. I don’t wanna talk spoilers but it seriously felt like they had nowhere to go from a plot perspective so they just wrapped it up.

Also, why is it that the only episode directed by a black person was episode 5 :scust:

The programming as predicted- I refuse you watch another episode of this. Been called it- another horrorsploitation movie profiting off the souls of black trauma. Read a spoiler for episode 5 - they went too far, f this. Glad I deaded watching this halfway through episode 2.
*HEAVY SPOILER
Did Them: Covenant just cross a line with *that* death scene?

Like I said in the other thread -
I’m watching episode 5 now and I’m livid how they can try and pass this shyt off as fukking entertainment.

First episode didnt do it for me. Which is a shame because I was really looking forward to this because of Bashy. I might try to watch the rest of it though but it might be a struggle.
I only watched this shyt to support the brother but fukk sake I’m tired of this type of shyt. This racial horror is like the new slave movie.

Yeah, I get the Peele comparison. But this feels more like King then Peele. Peele is more horror comedy. Aint nothing funny about this so far.

And I hate period pieces that try to modern with the slang. Pet peeve and this does it. Just don't give the time period

Def appreciate the girl from US acting. If she don't get caught up in Hollywood, she should be able to transition to an adult actor.

Because any white director would not touch that episode with a barge pole. fukk whoever wrote that episode. They just put a black director on the episode so that they can get a pass for whatever sick fetishes that they put in it.
