Man, I love film and I will watch a good show; but we really need more diverse representation of black people and circumstances in these mediums. Damn near everything is is Jim Crow, race, slavery. Like, you know we’ve done and had other experiences the world, ya know? I thought this was going to be all on some supernatural thriller shyt, and it’s mostly about moving into Compton when it was a white neighborhood and racism. :stopitslime:

Unfortunately, if you intend to doing a PERIOD PIECE starring black people in America... it is LITERALLY UNAVOIDABLE because that is part of history. It'll be bullshyt fantasy to have a period pre-civil rights era piece and it's not at all highlighted. Especially when the message for it should be to understand the current circumstances today is to know your past.

Just finished episode 7 and I’m really confused about what the purpose of this show is other than to show black people having to deal with traumatic experiences. I’m gonna have to take a break because this is blowing my high.

On it now.

The show’s generally creepy but it takes a disturbing turn for me after this episode.

I agree with you on the sustained creepy vibe of the show and also agree with you even more about the way this show seems a bit too exploitative when it comes to showing black people being shyt on. It is an endless parade of black trauma porn with sprinklings of supernatural horror tossed in every once and a while.
This show could've been much better set in modern times just focused on a black family dealing with a demonic possession/haunting without all the other stuff thrown in for a reason I just can't understand at all.

What makes it even crazier to me is that even after 7 episodes, the show still hasn’t made a narrative clear other than the family being haunted and being fukked with every time they leave their house. With 3 episodes in and I have no idea where this is going because this show just feels like an anthology of how a black family can be fukked with.
